Is NAFLD really reversible and do I have a change

Hi šŸ‘‹ I am a mother of 7 amazing children and I recently was diagnosed with NAFLD inflammation and Nash stage 2 and she said 90% damage, so yes Iā€™m super scared to die, Iā€™ve cried non stop since 2/4/2020 when she read my biopsy to me I wish I would have found out sooner. Almost immediately I changed my food intake and diet greens with olive oil and all organic no meat no sugar and only water and green tea, working out 1 hour a day with a sauna suite on, before I was diagnosed in August I started changing my diet I was 295 and today Iā€™m 251 I just checked I lost 2 more pounds in 4 days. My Doctor in The Houston Medical center was just nonchalant about it she is a liver specialist but she was like, lose weight get the Bariatric surgery done ASAP! šŸ¤¦šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø Well now I find out my insurance has a restriction on that surgery so I donā€™t have $25,000 and Iā€™m really scared that I will get worse even though Iā€™m already working on my weight and lifestyle. I need help understand this and what I need to do? Please help

Sabrina

First thing is take a deep breath. You need more information but your are on the right track with your weight loss so keep that up. There is confusion in what you understood from your doctor. It is important to know that NASH stage 2 is a good time to find out. The 90% damage comment doesn't really make sense so you need her to explain things more clearly to you. Generally, people like you who are being successful with weight loss won't be considered for bariatric surgery so chances are that if stage 2 is your real diagnosis and you continue with your diet and exercise your chances of managing this successfully are very good. There are many people here who are managing the disease from stage 4 and wish they were in your shoes so try to relax and get your doc to explain your condition more clearly.

Take a breath, donā€™t try and rush in too quickly or your just going to wear yourself out. One day at a time okay. Concentrate on your diet, work out whatā€™s good & bad, for eg I follow a Mediterranean style diet, lots of good healthy foods. Keep well hydrated water green tea šŸ‘ I also drink other teas, ginger, fruit, camomile, turmeric, lots of choice again. + coffee.

Avoid all processed foods, and white foods eg bread rice flour etc. Also alcohol.

Youā€™re exercise invaluable, but donā€™t over do it !!. Variety is far better,

Walking, swimming, bit of a work out if thatā€™s your normal, but not too sure about the sauna suite šŸ˜œ.

Many of us donā€™t know why we get this disease, and usually are diagnosed quite by accident, as I was having gone for my yearly MOT check with my GP. Bloods showed low white platelets count, so I had a follow up with a specialist. Itā€™s known as a silent disease in that many never find out until itā€™s advanced.

So Sabrina welcome to the forum, you will find a great amount of useful information and ideas to improve your life style, weā€™re all here for you.

All best wishes šŸ‘Œchrissie. UK
