Really worried

I was told I have scarring on my liver a few years ago. My liver enzymes have always been high, but stable. Blood tests last week show my Alkaline Phosphotase levels have gone up some. My internist is sending me to a new doc. What could be my problem?? I try to eat healthy! Don’t want to have another liver biopsy as I had that a few years ago. What can I do?? I hope I don’t have liver failure!! Can anyone offer advice?? I’m worried about seeing another doctor too. Thanks!!

Hi Addie Ann

You may be suffering from FOFO, the fear of finding out. It is important to know what your real status is and it may involve testing you don't really want but you can't deal with a health problem if you don't understand it. My advice is to make sure you are being referred to a hepatologist. You know you have a liver that has challenges so the first step is to know what you are dealing with. Fear is the mind killer. Recognize that you are dealing with an important issue information is your friend. Easy to say, I know but it is your best next step. Good luck.

I was diagnosed with Hepatitis C in 2016. I to was very scared. I was in ICU for 4 days and a regular room for 3 more days with double pneumonia, liver cirrhosis and Hep C. I’m telling you that because there is hope. I made a drastic life change. Started reading everything I could. Was seen by both Digestive Disease and a hepatologist Doctors. I was told 2 grams salt a day (I don’t add any now), no alcohol, 9 grams of protein, and no medicine that harms liver disease. I eat mostly chicken, seafood and red meat about two times a month. Also all fresh vegetables and fruits. My liver is healing itself, finally!! Good luck and hope you get healthy soon.

That’s what my doctor told me, but I have Cirrhosis so your disease might be different. Ask your doctor.

I was getting sick every month with fever, dizziness and lethargic. Started passing out and urine was brown. I was hospitalized in 2016. Had double pneumonia that went septic. My liver was damaged by Hepatitis C. Had to change diet and start exercising. I was close to death. But I’m here today and giving my opinion here on this site. Hoping I can help others.
