I am wondering with regards to pain. Hope severe we you say it is and how long did it last. My liver area feels swollen, it was a dull ache like this for 2 months. But since this past Saturday it had been really painful keeping me up at night. What has your experience been with pain in liver area and has it been chronic?
Stay strong,
B.

Hii am always in pain in the liver area, some days worse than others. My liver is very enlarged which stretches the capsule around it causing the pain. I'm on 4 different pain meds and still in pain, don't know what I'd be like without them!! Take care Lynne
I'm sorry to report that it isn't really possible to describe a specific course for the pain a person might feel. You may be told that the liver does not feel pain. That is technically true as it doesn't have any pain nerves. However pain is commonly a problem. The covering of the liver has nerves and the entire area is complex so the exact cause of the pain is often hard to identify. The most important first step is to see a doctor with liver training because there can be a number of other causes for that pain. As to time, for some it can come and go but for others it is all the time.
Thanks for your reply and for maintaining the forum. I went to the doctor but he doubts that I have liver problems my tests were normal then slightly elevated but I think because I am mid twenties he doesn't think liver disease as it is not common but my white blood count is consistently coming low recently. All these symtoms are new I am going to ask to see a specialist because the ultrasound just showed gallstones but I have swelling and fatty meals don't cause the pain feels like something is swollen on the upper right side stretching to the rear.
Statistically he is correct and deserves your attention, the caveat is that we are seeing more young people all the time with liver disease. Adopting a liver friendly lifestyle is wise even if you don't currently have disease since pain is a warning so be prudent.
Did they test you for Hepititist C? I was having problems and asked for blood work. Doctor told me for 2 years I was okay. I had Hep C, double pneumonia and liver cirrhosis. Doing better now, but have liver cirrhosis for life and other organs are helping with blood which causes them to enlarge. And yes there’s pain.
Night times can be bad and sometimes I wake up in pain. I can’t take pain medicines bc of my stomach and of course I wouldn’t take a Tylenol on a bet. I use heat or ice or stretching exercises. It’s random about what will work. Sometimes drinking herbal tea like a liver cleanse tea helps. I have read that coffee is very good for the liver and I drink as much as I can, sometimes 10 cups a day, which is actually only about 4 mugs full.
if checked have no liver issue, then the next best 2 things to do are 1. exercise everyday if u can, a 30 mins exercise, after 3 days, u should feel better. 2. keep emotional stable & try to relax. Also, be stress free, this is important, must consciously tell your self to keep calm. try to on bed around 10pm, deep sleep before 11pm because between 11pm - 3am is detox period. liver can collect toxins and start the detoxing at the optimal level btw those time. hope these help!
Yes I get pain around my liver which varies from day to day.
I note you have gallstones which are more likely to be responsible for the kind of pain you describe.
I have had liver disease for years and also had gallstones so sat in both sides of the fence.
All I can say is when the pain is that bad sit down and lean forward resting your elbows on your knees. It relieves the pressure and can really help. Stay in that position ling enough and you can end up going back to sleep.
Thank you but I read that gallstones pain doesn't come until after eating out it is severe runs to the shoulder. But this one feels like something is burning my liver from the front and from the back someone is pressing on it. IDK I hope I get well soon.
I had my gallbladder removed some years ago but it wasn't just after eating I had the pain. Most often it was at night. My consultant told me of the lean forward trick and I was really glad of it.
Without it I was in agony and didn't know what to do with myself.
At first we thought it was diaphragm spasm (another health problem made that a possibility 🙄)
Actually it was during that operation - won't give details in case people are eating lol, that they saw how bad my liver was so silver linings and all that.
My pain comes and goes, it feels full in the area. It’s definitely chronic and has been for a long time. The less I eat, the better. I never eat after 6 pm and I go to bed around midnight. Is the pain only in the liver areaorvslsi your back and shoulder blade? This has been going on for about 10 years but is getting worse.
Your definitely right with regards to good causing less discomfort. The trouble is I keep losing weight without even wanting to. For my frame I am .5 pounds away from being under weight according to the CDC I believe. So I don't know if my condition has progressed to cirrhosis because I keep losing muscle and weight without wanting to.
You may be getting too little protein or are having trouble digesting it. You might try adding 4 grams of BCAA to your diet. It is basically predigested protein, what body builders use to bulk up
