Hi Allison

We all struggle with that because of our different cultural backgrounds and food habits. We post a lot of information on our site that describes what we think works. It did for me, but we all have to adjust to fit our needs. Here is a link to get you started

Here’s a good booklet. It’s about liver disease and nutrition guidelines.

Hi, I'm sorry to hear of your diagnosis. Salt is pretty bad so stay away from salt. The reason, is your body will now store any excess fluids in your abdominal walls. Salt will cause this to be worse. This effect can not be stopped once it has started. You will need to have the extra fluid taken off (through you abdomen wall) at 1st you may be able to hold off for 6 to 8 weeks between these fluid draws. But then it becomes more and more often

Staying away from salty foods and adding salt will help with this.

I've been advised by the University of Chicago Fatty Liver Clinic to take 4 tbl of olive oil per day, and 3 cups of paper filtered coffee per day, along with Mediterranean diet.

The 1st two sound goofy, but evidently there's loads of scientific research supporting both protective effects of coffee on liver, and ability of olive oil to steady or even reverse fat accumulation in liver, and reduce inflammation as well.

I'm going back for my 1st follow-up visit to the Liver Clinic in about three weeks -- we'll see if it's helped. Fingers crossed.
