Admin update re: Covid - 19

Good Morning everyone, I hope you are well.

I just wanted to formally write to you all as part of your admin team to say that as of Monday I will have all my 4 (delightful but very noisy and boisterous, and not keen on being cooped-up with Mummy in the house) sons at home for 4-5 months. I now also discover I have a duty to be providing educational content during this time. Oh my stars!

So, I'm still here, and I will log in a minimum of twice daily, but do please know that my hands are fuller than normal, and please be patient with me

To that end, let's all be responsible, and if you have any concerns/questions/ideas do please PM Hidden or myself. We will appreciate a nudge, and promise not to get in a huff

Good morning Stoozie and thanks for informing us, you certainly have your hands full so you do what you have to do and look after your family.

I'm slightly higher risk than some as I've had pneumonia and it's left me with a scratched lung but I rarely get chest infections and am very fit and healthy.

I am also very lucky as I moved out of a city to the edge of a small town and my cottage sits in 1/3acre so I have lots of personal space and lots to do and have offered to help elderly neighbours.

So I will be about and do my best to support members and their needs.

What is very important for 'us' all to realise that we are in this together and we have to do whats best for us and those around us.

Sounds like a great setup, Jerry. Good of you to reach out, I'm sure your neighbors appreciate it.

I was a volunteer EMT and hope to be tested so I can offer help here at my condo complex-which has happened a few times.

I'd like to set up a table in front of my unit offering books and board games. My items have been in a shelf out of reach and I am sure are safe.

It's apparent people are concerned and need help. We very much need to look after each other. Well done!

Just a thought on that table: you won't have touched the games, but once they are outside your apartment, who knows who has rummaged through them since they were put out.

Can you put some tokens (like photos of the games) so people can see what you are offering without germing them up? If you put up a sign of what you are doing, and that the games are untouched by human hands, the could slip the photos through you door, with their apartment number on the back, and you could deliver them.

That sounds really complicated, but your pristine games won't be pristine the second you close your front door.

There must be a better suggestion, though.

That's a really great idea, SB. I was thinking of just letting the games go but you're right, people may handle them before someone actually takes the item. Photos of the games/books is a super idea. I could even make a quick website and put that at the pool/meeting house.

Yeah. It's not a perfect solution, but it is a real problem. Web site is even better: less waste and less risk of transmission.

One of my neighbours has left a pretty good looking kids bike out "please take". It's been there for 3 days. No one wants to risk it.

I am also on the edge of a small town - and have a garden.

I am slightly over 70, but I like to think that fasting and losing five stone have boosted my immune system - and I have volunteered to shop for anyone self-isolating.

On Monday I was due to get some leaflets to deliver, but, by late afternoon, they had not arrived - so I went on my usual 5km walk. I met the coordinator on the walk and then delivered - so I ended up walking 8.5km!

Thanks for letting us know, Stoozie. You will be busy! Nothing's more important than the kids, tho. Your priorities are right!

Hi Stoozie .

What ages are they - and have you been given a syllabus or and guidance re the "education"?

Here it is easy to get out of the house for a walk without getting close to anyone.

HI, thank you for your thoughtful question and your kindness

My boys are 11, 10, 7 and 5.

We do have a syllabus for each of them. It is very full, and it is hard to try to teach different things to each of them. One is supposed to be grappling with Henry VIII's dissolution of the monasteries, whilst the littlest counts (Outloud, beligerently) in 5's up to 150.

Interesting times!

Mr (Dr) Stoozie has also been given a full Covid list of patients on 2 days of the week. So I am worried about him too.

It's silly things like I have to leave his laundry (work uniforms) outside for 3 days before bringing it in to launder. In my part of the city I live in this will likely either lead to it being so wet with rain I won't be able to lift or spin/wring it, or unfortunately, pinched by an opportunist.

We lost a tree from the front garden last summer to an opportunist, so I'm not exaggerating the lengths some folk will go to.

Anyway, nice to chat to you. Well done with all you are doing in your community S11m

When my step-daughter was studying A-level Physics, I told her l would be able to help her with her homework. Her body-language said “Oh yeah” - but, when she did get stuck, I was able to help her.

Through washing her first husband’s clothes, my late wife died of mesothelioma.

Do they give Dr Stoozie adequate PPE?

I've just been catching up on old posts on the forum, (took a break from HU during lockdown) and was wondering where some familiar names were!
