Monthly Group Fast: May Day Fast

We try to hold a group fast on or around the first Sunday of the month. Next Saturday is May 1st, celebrated as May Day in Europe and International Workers Day. A celebration of labour or of spring, what could be a more suitable date to do something for your well-being?

The regular monthly fast is simple. Anyone doing an extended fast shares it here for support from fellow fasters. We will cheer you on, and tell you to stop if we are worried it's not healthy. (But don't rely on us for health advice, of course!)

We must all decide for ourselves if fasting is safe and healthy for us, but once you have established that, please use this discussion to achieve your goal. If you aren't sure what is safe and healthy for you, ask some questions and we can help you decide, or direct you to your GP.

The purpose of the group fast is for us to give each other support and encouragement.

Post your fasting plan here, then while you are fasting, updates on how you are feeling. Ask for help or advice or share hints on what helps you. Let us know how you did at the end, and maybe share a picture of your fast-breaking meal.

I often start my fasts after my last meal on a Sunday. Others prefer to fast over the weekends starting Friday. It's all good. Use this thread to support any elongated (for you!) fast you are doing.

Don't hesitate to start your own discussion/thread if that helps your goals. We are all supporting each other, and so should do whatever we need to be successful.

Remember, while it seems likely that fasting strengthens the immune system in the long term, stress can lower your immunity in the short term. You may be more vulnerable to infections during and immediately after fasting. Consider your personal risk of exposure to coronavirus when planning a fast.

I would not advise fasting on the days following the day you are vaccinated.

Hi Subtle_badger , thank you for posting. I know there hasn’t been much support for the group fasts recently. It’s a lovely colourful picture with the Maypole, let’ hope the recent good weather holds out. I can’t believe how quickly the time fly’s by. I have been struggling with my weight loss over the past few months. I am trying to follow LCHF with IF, but still having regular binges. The gyms opening up has helped though. I managed a 40hr fast a few weeks ago. I am at work next weekend and the BH, so not sure how the fast will fit in, I will keep it in mind and see how I feel, planning too far ahead can ‘backfire’ on me at the moment. 😊

Hi all, or two 😁 I have been having trouble with my stomach, doc. can’t find what’s wrong.

However a few weeks ago I tried a short fast (still had cups of tea) and found that it settled my stomach ... for a while so happy to try it again with others. I did a 2 day fast and didn’t feel hungry. See you 1st may 👍

First of May came and went. Husband cooked a curry. Didn’t enjoy it at all. So today is my fast day . Drinking tea with whole milk and water, no solid food until tomorrow. Of to see to the livestock in half an hour.

Hi Subtle_ badger

On Sunday, I’m going to do a dry fast. I am starting a water fast today and plan on fasting until Monday morning. Wish me luck. Are you doing a dry fast or water fast in Sunday?

Hi, Dianenonebutme .

Have you eaten today - or have you been fasting since yesterday?

I haven’t eaten today, stopped eating yesterday at 7pm

I haven't made my plans yet. I will probably personally never do a dry fast, I am not convinced to the benefits. Not really feeling it, so probably just a 36-60 hour fast, slightly dirty if required.

Good luck with your plans and keep us posted.

Hi Subtle_badger - I'm going to do just a 24-30 hour fast next week. Vaccinated a week ago and feel I should hold off for another week. Daily fast has been around 18hours lately, but a bit wobbly over the past week. Hope all is well with you.

Did a 24 hr fast yesterday. Wanted to go a little longer but hubby was having a melt down about starving 😂 I have a long way to go before that happens. Hope you all enjoyed your fast ( what a relief not to think about what to cook).

I am not in much danger of starvation - but, in the "elderly", the ideal BMI is about 27 - I am at 24.5 BMI, 15% body fat and I am 72 - and I do not want or need to lose any more weight - and it has taken me weeks to get back up to my target weight after my last fast.

I might have to start doing something desperate... like eating in the afternoon!
