Hi, we are currently 4 weeks into disimpaction of my nearly 3 year old, on max dose of 8 laxido and been in 5ml of pico daily since last Tuesday (14/5). Still getting a mix of consistency, what’s the next step, how long can she be on pico as I’ve heard it not a long term thing? Some times it’s really watery not not tea coloured. At my wits end and starting to question if I’m doing the right thing.
Tried the sweetcorn test but my little one isn’t keen on it so not sure how much she ate.

We ended up on 10ml of pico with the 8 sachets and never reached the “rusty water”. Our constipation nurse told us that due to his growth and food intake he wouldn’t reach that. We got to a point where he was very very loose then we had to come back down. He was around 3 when we first did it and it lasted for about it 2.5 weeks. He’s now 6 and is on a maintenance dose of 6 packets a day, they like them to be down to 2 for maintenance but you have to go with whatever is best for your child.
Hi, thank you for your reply, she is definitely very loose pretty much water with bits of food but just not a the colour that everyone talks about. Going to keep her going for a couple more days then start reducing slowly. Thanks again.
Rainbowbubble21 You can find information on disimpaction on our guide which states that brown bitty water should be achieved on at least two occasions to complete disimpaction. This can be found here: eric.org.uk/childrens-bowel... You can discuss stimulants and max dosages with your GP if needed.
this is us with my 3 year old…we did 3 weeks and a week of 5ml pico… but paediatrician allowed us to go up to 14 sachets per day…thought we had reached it but turns out we haven’t ..now we are starting again ..back on 8 sachets and still coming out like thick gravy..
I have been told my daughter can stay on low dose pico on repeat for a good while too…
