I have gone through disimpaction 3 times with my daughter over 12 months (once was colonoscopy prep). Each time, she has felt very ill during and for days after, often needing to lie down, tired, emotional, and in pain. She is nine.
I understood this to be expected. Drinking so much laxative, and the impact of this on a small body seems like a harsh experience. However, speaking to someone medical yesterday they suggested that this should not be the case and they should be acting normally (except going to the toilet lots). I wondered how other children (around the same age) behave during this process.
She has always been sensitive and emotional anyway so wondering is that is contributing factor overall.

We are disimpacting at the moment and she spent the worst 2 days of it (when she was full of laxative but hadn't yet started getting proper runny poos so was very full) lying on the sofa under a duvet. She said she also had a cold but it was unusual for her, even with a cold. Once the poos started coming, she got her energy and appetite back a bit.
My son is almost 5 and this is our first disimpaction with him, he's currently on day 12 and he's definitely like this - lethargic, sluggish and generally not himself. I wasn't worried until I heard the ERIC podcast where they said kids are usually on better form once disimpaction has started working. I'm really worried about my son now and not sure what to do...
