We did it…. My nearly 4 year old finally poo’s on the toilet and not her pants…. This is what we did

After years of my daughter constantly pooing in her knickers and only going on the toilet for wee’s we have finally cracked it and she now only goes on the toilet.

We tried everything and I was at my wits end knowing every time I picked her up from pre school the embarrassment of the teacher telling me she had once again done it in her knickers. We tried a song, a nappy, dropping slime in the toilet to make a ‘plop’, colouring the toilet seat in, cutting a hole in her knickers and sitting on the toilet, laxatives… you name it and we have tried it. I was having sleepless nights worried about when she starts school in September and what would we do….

Weirdly enough after 2 years I found my answer to her issue and it was a simple one….

One day I decided to no longer put knickers on her and just her trousers which I made sure where baggy ones. I made a point knowing she hadn’t yet had a poo that day I told her that if she was to poo it wouldn’t be caught by her knickers it would go down the leg of her trousers. My daughter wasn’t impressed we had tears and her begging me to put knickers on her. But I kept telling her that when she needed to poo she just had to go onto the toilet like she does for a wee. I don’t know how or why but she finally realised that going on the toilet would be a lot better solution than it going down her legs. Once she did it once she realised that it wasn’t a big deal. I kept her knickers off for a whole week, sending her to pre school in just her leggings just to make sure that she got in the routine of going.

This was 3 weeks ago and we haven’t had a single accident since she loves going on the toilet and is very proud of herself when she goes for a poo, telling everyone any anyone who’s close by to hear 🤪.

I know it’s not rocket science…. It’s not the answer to everyone’s problems but it worked for us after trying absolutely everything.

I was determined to see it through this time so even if she got constipated from holding it I wasn’t going to give in and put her knickers on just so she could go. But luckily the fruit I had loaded her up with was enough to help this withholding from happening and i made sure I gave her lots of drinks so she was literally on and off the toilet every five minutes . And it worked.

Hopefully our story can help others going through this frustrating issue 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

Wow that’s brilliant! I never thought of this. We had years of this and eventually we got there just in time for school. Good to know, I work in pharmacy ans this is such a common problem so it’s great to be able to share any idea with people having this problem. Well done and I’m so glad youv got there.. what a relief xx

I echo CheshireMama! Woo hoo and really great and encouraging to hear.

My 6yr old suffers from Chronic Constipation but although this could be very messy, I may try this as he relys on pull-ups outside of school most of the time. He's nearly 7 and it's getting very hard to deal with but think this could be helpful. Thanks and well done again!
