When do I lower the dose of laxido?

My almost 18 month old son has been withholding his stools for quite some time and constipation is something we’ve been dealing with what feels like forever. He is on 2 sachets a day and has 1-2 stools a day. They fill the nappy and are very sloppy like cow pat. He’s not straining to pass these and he’s not making a big deal either, not clenching or being on his tiptoes as much as usual. I’m worried everything is going straight in straight out with how sloppy they are and wondering when I need to lower the dose. How long do I need to keep this going for before lowering? I don’t want to lower the dose and go back to square one again where he’s scared to go. :(

I know with the movicol it's to lower it by half a sachet every 3 days. Till you find your maintenance dose. Ask gp to be sure .All the best !

I wouldn’t worry about everything going straight in and out, it might seem that way, but the job of the medication is to draw water into the bowls and soften the poo, so it’s doing it’s job.

I’d drop by half a sachet, and see how this goes for a couple of weeks. Then maybe drop by another half and again see how that goes.

It might be that one a day is a better maintenance amount. It’d be good to get close to the ideal stool consistency, a sausage, but don’t want to rush as needed your sons body to recover from constipation
