Worried about Dulcolax

I’m starting my son on dulcolax 12 plus. I’m really worried how he’ll be with it coz of the side affects. He’s also autistic so I can’t explain to him how he might feel. What’s your experience with it for your child. It was prescribed by his private paediatrician. He’s 14 btw.

I was going to start him on 5mls although was told he can have 10mls.

Thanks

My son is on 5mls per day of Dulcolax prescribed also by private paediatrician. He's been on it for a few wks now and a fortnight ago he's been complaining on and off about not feeling well (but not able to explain more than that). It could be a slight nauseous feeling I suspect. He'd not had a stimulant laxative before taking this. He's also been on laxido sachets for 6mths and was taking a high dose at the time to disimpact.Soo.. I'm not sure if it's the Dulcolax causing him to feel poorly or not.

I've read it can cause tummy cramps but I don't think my son is in pain.

He have another appointment next week and I'll ask how long it's safe to take it for.

Hope your son is ok. Has the dulcolax helped him to go? Also has he had diarrhoea with it? I have given my son 5mls dose so will see what happens and I’ll up it to 10 if I need to .

We've finished the disimpacting and I think the nausea was due to the high dose of laxido sachets rather than the dulcolax as he's been feeling well since we finished disimpacting. He's on a maintance dose of 3 sachets of laxido and still taking dulcolax and no, It's not giving his diarrhoea. If dolcolax is being taken on its own without stool softener laxatives alongside, I doubt it would cause diarrhoea. My son is 7yo.I hope it is working for your son.

Hi glad to hear your son is ok. Well I started him on Sunday on 5 mls for 2 days. Then I upped it to 10 for 2 days. But today he was quite unwell and had diarrhoea and was a little bit sick. He’s ok now after a sleep. But I won’t be giving it to him again. So I’ll have to see what is the next step. He was on Fybogel at one time for a little while and that worked well. I’ll most probably go back to that. But I am going to wait until the diarrhoea is completely gone .
