Hi everyone.

My 3 years of son is struggling so much with poo. Everything strted few months ago when we start using the potty, then a constipation followed and a painful episode and thats it. Now he don't want to go anymore. He holds for 4-5 days. The doctor gave us movicol and lactulose but we struggling to gave him as dont drink anything if he feal a taste in it. He didn't drink any kind of juice just water , milk and nesquick. We found that in milk can we put some Dulcosoft to help him with softening. When go out the stool si verry soft but with all that he is crying badly and he says is hurt , i don't know how to help him to pass this as nothing seems to work , either if he is left to do it in nappies or at the toilet/potty.

You need to add a stimulant, if he is withholding this will help.

Yes, one is a softener the other is a stimulant.

Ask the pharmacist or talk to a doctor before adding anything to his medications - senna especially as can't always be sure about the dose. I give movicol in chocolate milk or milk in cereal. It's far from ideal but he has a full glass of water before and after. Not tried it with the dulcolax but will try that later! Best of luck.

It could be fear as well as pain and maybe an anal fissure or internal haemorrhoids. Problem is it sounds like he needs to be seen and properly examined but its like pulling hens teeth to get face to face appts just now.
