Hello all! Were in the middle of disimpacting our 3.5 year old afyer months of soilkng problems that seemed to be getting worse. Were following the 2,4,4,6,6,8,8 advice and currently on the first day of 8 sachets. Apart from the first day of 6 sachets we havnt had any accidents. His stool is loose but not watery, more like yoghurt consistency. Do you know if theres a delay in the 'response' to the meds because i feel like he should be at the rusty water stage after the dose hes been having. Also were consodering sending him back to nursery tomorrow as hes missing out and hasnt been having any accidents but do you think this will suddently change? Its so hard to know what to do for the best

Disimpaction day 6 for 3.5 year old HELP!?
It will take time to get to the rusty water looking poo stage, keep going until you do, dont stop too soon. Once you get there remain on the maximum dose for 3 consecutive days before you start reducing the dose down very slowly i.e. 1 sachet every 3 days until you reach a suitable maintenance dose to remain on.
It would depend on how blocked up he was - my daughter barely used to change until 6 sachets then all of a sudden it happens and there’s no controlling it. I would advise not going back to nursery until you are satisfied you have cleared the bowel.I’m my experience you sound like you’re at the poo soup stage which is good but if you stop now it will stick to anything left in there and you’ll be disimpacting again in a few weeks time.
So stick with it! It does get better. And if you haven’t already have a read of this article it really explains the whole process really well, I found it very useful.
I think the advice is keep going till you get rusty brown water! I’d expect it to come within another couple of days at this dose and if drinking enough. ERIC website has good advice about it and a helpline. You can also phone your health visitor for advice.
My child was always very tired after a disempaction so I kept them home an extra day after recover and made a big well done fuss so the last thing they remembered about it was more positive! Other kids might bounce back quicker.
Hope you get there soon.
