worsening overflow soiling- what to do?

Hi all, just found this group. In need of some advice. My 6 year old son has been on Movicol for over 2 years now following a bout of constipation which we initially thought was diarrhoea, until realising it was over flow soiling. Early on, the control of the soiling was reasonable (taking 1 sachet a day). We tried reducing it slowly over time but now recently the soiling has been worse than its ever been, large amounts 3/4 times a day with small amounts at other times. When he does go the poo appears to be fairly soft, almost clay like (sorry for TMI!), but small, teardrop shape. We are at a loss what to do. My husband thinks we should try stopping the sachets completely to see if that helps but after reading other posts on here, I'm now wondering if he could need disimpaction again?? Any thoughts greatly appreciated,

have you disimpacted him? If he is soiling is highly likely that he is backed up and you need to effectively clear him out. Don't just stop the movicol, it wont help and you may make matters worse.

Hi my daughter was suffering from chronic constipation two years ago and it's only now that she is on one sachet of movicol a day. She was on four sachets a day at the beginning when she was having overflow like your son has we had to very slowly reduce the number of sachets. Have you seen your Gp? He sounds like he needs to be completely cleared out and needs alot more movicol to help do this. My daughter was also taking sodium picsolfate too but I wouldn't advise this for your son unless your Gp advises and prescribes it. Good luck
