Potty training Poo issues

My son is 3 years 2 months and we started potty training about a month ago. He is now really good with peeing and rarely has accidents but has only managed to poo on the potty a few times.

He had some problems with constipation at the start of the year and is on a sachet every 2 days of laxido, his stools are soft and there’s no cuts or anything on his bum.

He smears in his pants up to 6 times a day some days and at least once every day, I can’t work out if he doesn’t want to go to the toilet or if he doesn’t realise he needs but when he goes to childcare again (eventually!) they won’t change his pants multiple times a day.

Any suggestions on how to work out why this is happening and how I can get him to poo in the toilet?! He will happily wee on the main toilet or in his potty.
