Hi I’m a new to this group my son 5 has childhood constipation. We were given laxatives to use for 3 days to clear out his system but we have had no signs on this happening and he had the dose this morning. Should we phone the doctor to inform them that nothing has happened and find out what we should do? Thanks you for any advice anyone could give

I would disimpact. 3 days isn't enough to clear out properly. Read the ERIC website for advice. We're disimpacting every school holiday to keep my son clear.

3 days wouldn’t be enough to clear out, the GP need to give you at least a wks worth then review.

Definitely speak to gp and follow the ERIC way for disimpaction.

Hello there, I agree 3 days is nothing. My daughter was compacted with poo, it took us a week on high dosage of movicol, then reduced to x3 packs a day for a year, the rotting poo was stuck around bowels, coating it and making her bowels impossible to work. My childs case was severe, she got sepsis and nearly died. That is how important it is to make sure poo blockages come out. Please dont worry, your child possibly only has a little constipation. But I have to share my story because I dont want a child to go through what my child has. My daughters life was saved because I argued and got an MRI Scan from Pals, consultants could not feel any hard poo??? On examining, C-T Scans showed nothing either??? An MRI showed everything. I am so sorry to go on, but you demand any test you want, its your child. Consultants do get it wrong. On a lighter note, your child will be fine, dont give up, it can be so stressful, I have been there. If child has runny poo after few days, this does not mean that constipation has gone...You have to wait for all the hard lumpy poo to come out, it can take a very long time. Weeks in fact, put sanitary pads in underwear to stop accidents, and also my daughter would not drink Movicol in juice is tastes sickie. It still works in warm Cadburys Hot Chocolate. Mix it in at the end, very well, add more choc if needed, marshmellows on top, any thing to discuise it. It works for my child. Still ask your doctor though, but if you cant get child to drink it in juice, then Hot Choc works great. Take care, I am sure everything will be fine. Remember as a mom you know your child better than any one. Demand scans if child continues to be ill. Its your right. x Bless you, and your child. xx
