Hi, my daughter is 5 and has an over active and twitchy bladder. She's just started school and already this is impacting on her confident and school life. We have just been prescribed oxybutynin and wondered what are people's experiences of this is???

Thank you! X

Hi my son is in year 1 and he spent the whole of his foundation year suffering with an overactive bladder and it was just awful. He started on oxybutynin just before he started year 1 and the change in him is incredible, it took about a week for the medication to kick but after that it's been brilliant, he's had no accidents at school and is 100 times happier, more confident and our lives have completely changed. I'd definitely recommend giving it a try!

Hi! Thank you for your reply 🙂 that's brilliant, so glad it has worked for your son! Heard so many mixed things about oxybutyin it's good to hear a positive story. We are now couple of days in, no change as yet but hopefully after a week or so we may see results 🤞 x

I'd heard mixed things too but was willing to give anything a try. He still has to go to the toilet more often than normal but seems to be able hang on to it for longer and always gets the sensation that he needs to wee, whereas before he didn't and it was just coming out without him knowing. Good luck and hope it works for you. Xxx

Hi - it worked for us but took a good 6-8 weeks to really see the miracle difference. Our overactive bladder was caused by constipation so we had to get that sorted as well to let the oxybutynin really do its job. We were on it for 18months and we had to increase the dose in that time and then gradually decrease. Even if you don’t see the immediate difference, give it time. I also worked out that there are various things that make her bladder more twitchy - squash is the worst offender for us but some people also say fizzy drinks and hot chocolate. Good luck xxxxx

Thank you! Glad it worked for your daughter, it's great to hear other people experiences with it.

She had been constipated before hand, so we did a deimpaction and now have her in a regular dose of laxido. Just starting the oxybutin now for past week, so far there's been a little improvement which is good. She is having some problems with tummy pain, dry mouth etc but only just at the beginning do have my fingers crossed! X

I know several people who have great experience on it. It initially worked brilliantly for my daughter and changed our lives but the side effects ultimately weren’t bearable. Dry mouth and inability to cope with any kind of heat. But she turned into a very aggressive monster so that was the turning point. She’s tried tolterodine but it didn’t work. Consultant now won’t give her anything as they all work on central nervous system so have same side effects. So she’s getting physio for pelvic floor and uses big pads - not great when on way to puberty 😬. It’s worth trying and I do hope it’s a success story for your daughter. 🤞
