Hi all I’m new here do please bare with me. It’s currently 00:26 am and I’m honestly exhausted my 5 year old has been crying for last 1 hour about pain to his left abdomen. I can feel all the hard stool in him right upto his rib cage and there’s a lot of it. I’ve been through this with my now 10 year old. He suffered from chronic constipation with vomiting and the runs until he was 3 and a half. But my 5 year old Isn’t showing any signs of improvement. I have tried all the constipation relief available including the use of depositories. Juices improved diet and even natural herbal remedies and I can honestly say I’ve had enough 😔

Exhausted and helpless
Hi, are you getting any help from your gp? I had nightmares with a few gp's with my son. I finally found help here and got a very helpful school nurse to write a strongly worded letter to gp practice. Finally found a sympathetic gp who referred us to a specialist incontinence nurse. This changed our lives. She prescribed disimpaction. Has anyone suggested this to you?
Have you tried castor oil. I give my 3 yr old 2 tspn once in two weeks or so to clear. You need to find the one that can be ingested with the dosage mentioned for kids.
Castor oil and infant suppositories would get me results on the same day. Castor oil takes 5-6 hrs to work, so time it accordingly.
It tastes disgusting so, u have to be a little firm. I give it with medicine syringe...and see that it goes straight into the farthest part in the mouth , for least taste. And reward them later with something sweet.
Now I dont have to give it that often as two weeks as she has started going once in two/three days by herself. They also get a bit worried that if they dont go, she might have to take the oil. Poor thing. But it works.
You are doing a brillant job even tho it may not feel like it.
Personally where I would look to start is a discompaction programme. I would go back to the gp and insist for a referal to a gastroentoligst consultant.
When my son was blocked to that level what he found that helped was if I placed pressure on his abdomen. It seemed odd to me and sometimes he would place my hands so I increased the pressure. Baths tended to help him with the pain. Clockwise movement sometimes gave him some relief. When you see them.like this it breaks your heart. Try and get them active as it helps .
My personal view on constipation is one thing is not going to rectify it on its own. Excess milk/ Blackcurrant squash aggravates it further. Is there a possible food group that could be aggravating it further?
You are not alone, and I understand how you are feeling. All the best.
Are you still feeding him bread? That should be cut out. Have you tried foot massage to improve intestinal motility/peristalsis? Also stewed plums really work. Has he been on antibiotics recently? That kills good bacteria that makes you poo.
