Has anyone needed to homeschool because their kids are too incontinent?

My almost 7 year old is wet and pooey all day every day and has been her entire life.

My 4 year old has poo which is like brown paint.

Basically I’m wondering how I can do school anymore. We’ve had hundreds of appointments and nothing and no medication has helped.

I can’t see how I can have the younger one in school. It’s literally like putting dynamite in a tin of brown paint and she can poo up to her neck. It was her first while day today and it covered her dress and she was changed. They think it’s a tummy bug but it’s just what her poo is like.

The other one is getting too old to be sat in liquid poo and stink all day. It’s not fair on her.

I always imagined I would have to homeschool once they got to a certain age. It’s just not socially acceptable to be covered in poo and wet! And there is no solution. No medication does anything.

Just wondered if anyone else has had to give up work and remove their kids from school?

Hello! I'm 16 and and have a chronic wetting and pooing issues, both nocturnal and diurnal. I was homeschooled for a while when I was younger due to me being very pooey as well. I still do have pooey and wet accidents often, but I am now going to public school. I really just had to learn to live with it overtime, and wear heavier nappies. I hope that your children don't go as long as I am, but I just am here to reassure you that if there really is 100% no chance of it stopping, then you'll just have to teach them how they can live with it overtime and adapt as they age on.

Hi

We decided to homeschool our oldest daughter because we could no longer cope with the stress of trying to keep her in a school routine. People had strong negative opinions but for us it changed our family life and that was huge. Ours was different as she has functional constipation and would withhold for days. School tried to help by scheduling her toileting but sadly it made it worse and she ended up in hospital having a manual evacuation under general. That was when I reached my limit.

I know that schools have a legal responsibility to plan for our kids but for us it was more about the psychological impact on her and our family unit.

We home educated from year 1 to year 3. She went back in year 4 and is now in year 6. She still has issues and if she is stressed she will withhold. This definitely increased again when she returned to school but her age makes it easier to manage.

I don’t regret our decision at all and genuinely miss our home Ed lifestyle. It enabled us to build her confidence back up which at the time was causing her great distress.

There are loads of groups to socialise and I can guarantee if you put your area and home education into Facebook you will find a supportive community.

Our daughter has been on movicol and senna since 2 years old. She turns 11 in a few weeks and it is still a struggle but is much easier to manage now.

She did not struggle going back into the system at all.

Good luck. I know how hard it is!

Hi,

My 7 year old is still at school but I’m seriously considering home schooling for him.

Despite numerous meetings it sometimes feels like they really don’t understand what is going on and the amount of phone calls and text messages is stressful. I think you know your child best and it’s what works for you. If you’re able to, I would go for it. Lots of homeschool groups have a social media page and lots of attractions like museums/libraries/forest schools have sessions for Home Ed children.

Good luck with whatever you decide!
