Managing 3.5 yo Cosmocol Regime during Tummy Upset

Just wondering what the advice is for managing ongoing maintenance dose when experiencing tummy bug (high temp/loose stools)? Do you stop cosmocol and restart later, or keep going? Reduce dose?

Last time my 3.5 yo had a mild tummy bug we stopped for a day, but then she had a painful large poo (backed up) a couple days later. I know from my own experience that constipation can occur following a bout of diarrhoea as the tummy readjusts.

So my thinking is that we continue the cosmocol but it somehow doesn’t feel right to provide it during periods where she is unwell and when stools are so loose anyway. So we have reduced the dose as a compromise but I’m worried she will take steps backwards - is this inevitable?

Any experience and advise on this please.

Hi never stop it just reduce it.thats where I went wrong last year then I was back to square one again. It can't hurt them infact it helps them with their pain.my lg been on and off of movelcoil and senna for nearly four years was told she be on it til she ten years old. Gives her stretch bowel time to recover. She has chronic constipation and complex bowel syndrome.

Do you know how long to expect to shrink down the bowel? Once it shrinks, is that when the feeling comes back?

Bowel can take anywhere up to 6-10 years. To shrink back and feeling should come back.

Also if she don't pass a bowel movement by day three to up her medicine. Peadrictians like them to pass a soft poo a day.. I keep a diary too.

Hi we made the mistake of stopping movicol for two days when my daughter had a tummy bug and diahorrea. This was the advice of the gp and he even said the diahorrea may clear the bowels out and we might not need to give her so much movicol when the diahorrea stops. But two days without movicol and she immediately became constipated again and we were back to square one

Exactly the same as tiger never stop it just increase it.with stomach virus also I find that helps my lg salt warm baths helps to relax the stomach also when lied down lie her on right side it takes pressure off of her bowels.

Thanks for your posts, yes this is exactly what I was thinking. She regressed purely because we reduced a bit so now I definitely know to keep the dose the same (or increase if needed). Thanks for backing this up!
