I'm not sure if I've posted about this issue before or not. For 3/4 years my eldest son (now 11) sometimes doesn't wipe his bottom after going to the toilet. We've had issues going on with my youngest for 5 years nearly so I'm at my wit's end and feel like a rubbish mother.
My eldest comes home from school wreaking of poo and doesn't seem to care. He's going to secondary school in September and I'm really concerned that he's going to get bullied.
Our local Continence Nurse had spoken to him but he still does it despite having things taken away and my husband and I getting angry and frustrated.
Anybody had the same problem? I'm taking him to the GP tomorrow as I can't deal with it anymore.

Hi there, is it possible that your son is suffering from constipation? Have a look at the poo nurses video. It could be what is called 'sneaky' poo that he has no awareness of and can't help. Good luck
The Paediatric nurse thinks it's a psychological issue and I think the GP does too. He only did it every now and then but we have to check his bottom every day to make sure he's clean. The GP didn't mention constipation on Monday when I saw her.
I've been thinking about your son and wanted to let you know a couple of things. Firstly with my daughter(now 13), she could never smell when she had an 'accident' and was often baffled that her dad and I were aware of it before she was. - The smell was behind her so your son may genuinely be unaware of what others can smell. Secondly he does not have to be constipated to have some leakage between bowel movements. Sometimes this happens when there's not enough fibre in the diet. You could try adding some extra fibre to his diet and see if this improves things. I personally self medicate with 2 Kiwifruit a day, it works wonders.
I really understand your concerns - been there, felt that!!!
I hope things work out soon for you and your family.
P.S. You are not a rubbish mother, you are here in your sons corner looking for help and one day you won't even think about these things anymore, you will be thinking what fine sons you have raised! 🤗
Thank you. I feel like between my two sons we've been dealing with poo issues for 9 years!!!!!!!
I cried at the GPs on Monday and I told her the background to both my son's issues. My younger one has been constipated and had issues for nearly 5 years and my eldest has had issues for nearly 4.
I asked my son on Monday night how he felt to see me cry and he said it made him feel sad.
They both eat a healthy diet which is why it's so frustrating. They do have Hypermobility which I think is hindering. We're seeing Dr Wright up in London on 25 February with my youngest. Our Paediatrician has done nothing for my youngest and doesn't have any empathy with our situation at all.
Thanks for your comments. I don't know anybody else who's experienced the bottom wiping issue so it's made me feel better.
Thank you also for your last comment too. I do wonder what type of parent I am sometimes. I give my children 1000% every day and always try my best for them. Thank you again. I do feel like all I talk about is poo.
You are not alone. I have a 9 year old. I think it would be worth trying disimpaction then good toilet regime sitting on toilet 20 mins after eating. We do breakfast and tea. Use wet wipes for wiping
