Struggling to cope! My daughter is 4 and recently been admitted for 4 days with constipation (home yesterday) for 10 days she has been having bouts of screaming pain, writhing in agony. She was given Picolax eventually to clear her out because she wasn’t tolerating the fluids needed to take with laxido. She has now not eaten in 8 days and is drinking very little...says she feels sick and is still having these bursts of pain. Docs say she is “fine” as in no blockage/impaction eTc and that a lot is behavioural after the experience in hospital. I don’t know where to go next in helping her to stop the pain and to begin eating and drinking. Has anyone had similar and come through the other side?

4 year old still in agony after 10 days. Not eating or drinking...help!
Sorry to hear she’s in so much distress. When my son has struggled with eating and drinking I’ve focused mainly on drinking and have found slushies and ice lollies have worked best. My son was diagnosed with gastritis following having been prescribed high dose pica sulphate (which I think caused it) and is on omeprazole. Obvs your daughter is far younger (he’s 9) so hopefully she will settle in the next few days. He tolerates dry food much better than any other food, especially plain tortilla chips. Twiglets are good too. He’s eaten breakfast biscuits for breakfast (when he can face breakfast). They can be easier than toast or cereal. Also he tolerates food better in the evening than the daytime when he’s nauseous or refluxing (the morning is usually the worst). I also take him shopping, just the two of us, purely to find things he might feel able to eat. Sesame snaps are good too. Let us know her progress x if it continues I would push for more medical help, 4 is very young bless her
My daughter has been in sinular situations but never not stopped eating completely. We were just discharged after a nights admission and a enema to clear her blockage and she refused to eat yesterday for first time. I am hoping she'll resume today. I would try frozen yogurts or lollies first or fun things - popcorn is a treat but really high in fibre too. Maybe try things crackers or breadsticks xx
