BEST WAY TO CHANGE SOILING CHILD?

mummysortseverything profile image

Hey Everyone, I'm new to posting here :)

My 9 year old DD suffers from withholding and as a result often soils herself.. the issue itself is being dealt with and is just going to take some time. I was just wondering what best ways other parents use to change their child when they soil themselves?

Due to my DD being 9 years old she is quite independent now with the clean ups... but when she soils heavily I still need to intervene. I often use the traditional nappy change method when this is the case (although she wears pants) .. but now she is getting older I wondered if there was a better alternative?

Is throwing away soiled knickers better than washing them out? Also when out in public places is it better to use the baby changing areas (obviously not the table ) or the disabled toilet?

Hi it's not an easy choice but the nappy change way is often the most suitable when we need to help them - I have an 11 yr old with the same problem and an occasional problem with my 8 yr old. As for knickers I wash them out.

Does your daughter soil / heavy soil at school or just at home ? It's a different situation regarding changing at school for them.

Hi there. I use either the disabled toilet or the changing room with my son when he soils. Often they’re in the same place and I means I have a bin to put the soiled underwear in (I tend not to wash it out as we’re usually out and about for quite a while and I think I would lose my sanity if I had to bring it home to wash it. However saying that, my son can go quite a bit in his pants.

In terms of changing, I’ve found using pads helpful as I can throw those away (the dry like me pads). I also always have my son carry a bag with water wipes (they’re wetter than other wipes, so easier for cleaning with), change of pants and trousers. I usually wipe him down best I can, but am starting to teach him so he can do it himself. He’s only 6 so we have some time before he gets too embarrassed.

Hi there and happy new year to you both. :) Water wipes sound like a better idea and I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one who has had to use the nappy change mode. I read a news article the other day about a mother campaigning for changing places toilets which sound better even for children that soil/ wet. Just having a bigger changing place for them when they heavily soil (which she can do at times) is a good idea. Anyone else have any ideas on the best way to change when out in public? :)
