Holidays abroad, pooing in pants Help

Hi

I have written here before about my 4 year old pooing in his pants since he was potty trained from about 2 1/2, same issue again now, when I wrote the last time he was withholding and was having sneaky Poo, I done a disimpactation at Easter (as by doctor) and all went well until a few weeks later we were back to the start again, I'm getting really worried as he's starting school in September and we are going on holidays to Spain for 2 weeks in 3 weeks time.

He's having lots of accidents all the time, he's on 2 sachets of movical, I've been to psychologist and she suggested sitting him on toilet for 3 mins every 30 mins, sticker charts, sweets well I've done them all and no difference. My question is do I increase the movical?? Do I decrease to 1 sachet?? Do I go back to the doc again and do the whole disimpactation routine again???

I'm at my wits end with this, any help or suggestions would be great, I just don't know what to do :(

Thanks

Stephanie

Is he having accidents due to the amount of movical or do you feel that it is still over flow from being constipated? Two a day is a high maintenance dosage and he should be passing soft poo. Keep sitting him but try for more than 3 mins at a time as it may take his body longer than that to realise he's sitting on the loo. 20 mins after food is a good time to sit for longer as the body is stimulated to go when we've eaten. Squatting in frog pose is a good exercise in our experience before sitting as it's the bodies natural position for going to the toilet and it may stimulated the bowls. As for the holiday don't worry have plenty of swim pants with you change him straight after swimming have plenty of normal underwear for in between swims if your by the sea it would be easier but if your pool based you can go the room and change him sit him on the loo when ever you like. Try not to worry about the holiday and enjoy yourself. Take extra underwear that you can throw away if necessary. Have a good holiday.

Maybe try lowering the daily dose slightly as Georgina says 2 sachets maybe too much and hard to control. Our consultant explained that when children try and hold their poo in, the end bit of poo leaks out/breaks off (depending on consistency) so it isn't always overflow that is coming out.

Also strict toilet routine after breakfast and dinner for at least 10 mins (longer if you can) read books, colour, anything to keep sat. Foot stool to raise legs.

Age definitely helped us. Try not to get yourself too stressed about school (I was totally stressed before reception started) talk to the teachers, be open and honest, write in an email if possible so you have proof of everything you have told them. Ask for schools support, let them know of all GP appointments and medication etc, makes it more of a medical condition to any unsympathetic people (hopefully the teachers will all be sympathetic)

Enjoy your holiday x
