is anyone on vimpat (lacosamide) which has caused hair loss? I’ve been on it since 2018, and I have gone fron thick hair to shedding of my hair, it’s so thin and causing me so much depression. I’ve had bloods done, gp has said healthy scalp, so not sure if meds? N e advise would b grateful. Thank you.

Hi Car67

Hair lose can be a very distressing time.

We havent been able to find this listed as a side-effect of Vimpat. If the hair loss continues, if you havent already, it may be best to talk to your epilepsy specialist or epilepsy nurse. If they think it may be related to your Vimpat, either you or your epilepsy team can report your side effects to the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) by using the Yellow Card Scheme.

Nah hair okay, been on it since 2018, BUT always had healthy amount of hair all my life, I have what is now termed terminal epilepsy, had over 400 seizures, but specialist agreed irreparable brain damage next one probably last🥴 do find scalp is very itchy and sensitive!

Realise the opening post was a year ago, but general info; found Lacosamide caused considerable loss levels. Never had an issue previously, but 16pcm on it, has caused the loss of perhaps 2/3rd's of my hair. One reason for coming off this drug

in reply to

& noted an earlier post of mine ! Lacosamide reduced to 150mg daily start of March, then 125mg, 100mg, 75mg, 50mg, finally 25mg, coming off it altogether a couple of weeks ago. As a male, run of the mill haircut, have never been that bothered by hair, other than it's loss due to Lacosamide. Following two months below a daily 100mg dose, the bulk of that period 50mg daily or below, started to notice 3-4 weeks back that my hair actually felt like hair, rather than chemically damaged nylon type strands. Lost hair blocking the plughole of the bath/shower drain has now ceased. Will have to wait to see if lost hair will actually grow back
