Seizure when active

Hello I tend to suffer from seizures now (compared to more frequently 5 or 6 months ago) whilst playing 5 a side football. Does anyone have this or know why this could be? Some weeks I tend to be ok if I alternate it either other week or so, but a couple of weeks ago I I played two times in two weeks, and the second time after running around a bit I just collapsed and had a seizure, what felt like my worst one for a long time. Previously my last seizure was almost 3 months ago.

Hi Anthon_united

Some people say, when they are active, they are less likely to have seizures. For some people with epilepsy, taking part in sport and leisure activities can really benefit their epilepsy. A very small number of people find that doing strenuous exercise increases their likelihood of having seizures.

Some things make seizures more likely for some people with epilepsy. These are often called ‘triggers’. One of the common triggers is tiredness.

Keeping a seizure diary is a good way to try and find out what might trigger your seizures. Every time you have a seizure, record it and make a note of what you were doing and how you were feeling. If you do this over time, you might see a pattern emerging.

Epilepsy Action has more information about keeping a seizure diary.

I hope you can find that balance so you can continue enjoying playing football.

Thanks for your reply Diane

I find when I play, I seem to have an aura and someone can talk to me but I can't respond as my mind is out of sync and my sight is blocked by loads of dots, which happens when I play football and have a seizure but not necessarily when I am not active. I do wonder if running around non stop without a break affects me and causes this.

I do have a seizure diary, I haven't been diagnosed with epilepsy but I am sure if I hadn't played football when I had my last seizure I wouldn't of had one and would have been on my longest streak without having a seizure, around 4 months.

I can't seem to pinpoint any specific triggers which is annoying, I guess it is what it is and try not to affect me but after having one it does depress me.
