Any tips for easing discomfort at work please........

I have just returned to work after a stint of being signed off and although I am feeling closer to normal I get increasingly uncomfortable at my desk throughout the afternoon. I try to get up every 20mins or so but sitting back down again gets worse and worse - does anyone have any tips for helping with this?

I am now down to over the counter painkillers only at work which as I am sure you are all aware are pretty useless but the variety of painkillers I have from the doctors either knock me out or make me feel too sick at work!

I always used to have a hot water bottle at work with me for pain - either on my tummy or my lower back.

Thanks Beks, my hot water bottle is definitely my best friend! Think I need to come up with a disguise for it at work though (or learn to be more subtle in an open plan office!) as my boss takes the view that if I need a hot water bottle to get through the day then I'm not well enough to be at work - she may have a point but I need to keep my sick days down as much as poss to keep my job! May need to invest in some heat patches instead!

How's your chair? I managed to adjust mine so it gave a bit more support to my back. Not perfect (and I think the hot water bottle disguised at work is brilliant) but every little helps...

try heat patches : )

Hi, if possible I try and eat little and often to try and reduce the horrible uncomfortable feeling you mention.

Thanks, interesting that you suggest that as it did cross my mind today so will try that. Thanks

Its worth a try-especially if you have the type of job where you can graze at your desk as often as you want!

Good luck and hope you find something that works for you soon :)

If you get 'underneath' discomfort from sitting try a rubber ring... they have them in different colours so you could try to match your chair colour to make it less obvious. I have a square grey velvetyy one and it eases the pressure.

Personally I take a pack to work with me for the worst days and keep it in my car - it consists of a hot water bottle (small one so its more discreet), my TENS (which again is specifically designed to be discreet), heat patches, a small cushion and my cocktail of tablets.

Cups of tea can work wonders too :)

Have yr firm got a occupational health person, if you are working with a medical condition they have to allow you reasonable adjustments, MY managerWAS ,told that I had to have breaks to move around use any aids ie hheatpathes, hot water bottles are a health and safeTy risk , tirade any pain etc.

Cura-Heat Period Pain patches are a blessing! They last all day and are super hot! Much easier to hide than a hot water bottle! You can get them in most pharmacies. It's about £4 for a 3-pack!

White flower oil or tiger balm? they work however for a very short time and you need to keep applying it, it is good if you are in the house as the smell is very strong!

Has anyone tried Ibuprofen or diclofenac gel? i have not personally tried it but was considering it.

Why does nothing work for a long time?! :-(
