Just watched Embarrassing Bodies , had someone with endo on it. Thought it was good as it showed it quite clearly. I'm due to have my 3rd laparoscopy next month, not looking forward to it

I watched that part of it as i heard there was a piece on it. If you don't mind me asking, how many times will they do a laparoscopy? i'm still pushing for my first at the moment, they say i need to lose weight which i'm doing but i'm limited sometimes for extra activity due to pain. It's a vicous circle :(

hey ive had 6 laparoscopys over the past 6 years and more than likely will have to have another as i am still in quite a bit of pain. keep fighting to be seen by your gynae, i was 17 when i started to have problems but didnt have first laparoscopy until i was 25!!! hope you get seen hun, the lasers that are used during the laparoscopy do bring some relief x

I thought it was ok but we really need more info putting across to ppl, surgery doesnt always help.. ive had 8 laps & numerous hormones treatments...we need more info as to how to deal with this awful condition, as it never goes away...

blimey, that's a lot of laparoscopies for you both, and such a long time waiting - obviously i've not had a diagnosis yet, my gp is convinced it is endo with all the symptoms, i also have a large cyst on my left ovary, which is attached to the fallopian tube but they don't know if this is a regular cyst or a chocolate cyst, i'm still researching stuff at the moment - but my gp said that the cyst is not connected to my periods which are around 3 wks out of 4, very erratic and very painful so i'm a bit stumped - so i'm still pushing on.

i cannot believe how many women suffer with this but life is made so hard for them xxx

Am i the only one that was disappointed with the part on Embarassing Bodies?

I am very grateful that it was shown and they showed that you can need surgery and it is painful etc etc. But the woman had one lap, no hormone treatment to mention of and everything was sorted. Now i know for the majority of us the first lap is just the starting point of years of endless treatment with not a lot of success.

Like i said i really appreciate it being on the mainstream over the last few weeks but at the same time i think it made it look like it 'wasn't that bad'. Especially as few people understand the extent of it and now i get asked why i have so many issues.

I agree with heatherec. I think it definitely made it out as 'not that bad' when so many of us suffer so much more with worse pain than that >.< I've been on various combined pills for a year now and none have worked. I'm booking in for my second laparoscopy at the end of june. But it's not so simple as just an operation. I didn't think there was anywhere near enough info on it.

like you say it was good to hilight it but i agree it was done in such a way that it was no big problem and easily sorted.....they could've added that many women fight for years to try to get a diagnosis or that even with treatment it may never go away, even with a hysterectomy.

i watched casualty too, and again not enough was covered, and it would be good if casualty could follow up on that woman - maybe one of the main soaps need to cover it, and maybe show how it can go on long term but i suppose it wouldn't be long term, look at eastenders with tanya's cancer, one minute she was at deaths door and the next its treated.

Most of the time when I tell people I have endometriosis they haven't got a clue what it is and it's not the easiest thing to describe. A lot of people then turn round and say that they have bad periods too. I mentioned to my MIL that endometriosis was shown on Embarrassing Bodies this week and she said she'd watch it. Although she works in the health profession she doesn't really know what it is either and although she knows I'm in a lot of pain because of it, I don't think she realises how bad it is.

@ginger83 - i know what you mean about trying to explain what you've got and you get that reply of i have bad periods too.....it's a bit like when somebody says 'ooh i've got flu' when really they've got a normal common cold, i've had real flu twice in my 40 years of life and its nothing like a cold lol - i'm not looking for sympathy for all this pain and illness, but just understanding - i work as a mobile hairdresser, i've gone from working a 40-50 hour week to 8-12 hrs as its all i can manage without crippling myself, i tell my clients that when they still want me to wash their hair over the bath it causes me chronic pain, but they still want me to do it as i'm sure they think 'how bad can it be it's only a period pain' x
