Hey, so I'm a little confused and looking for advice! I was referred for a Laparoscopy 2 years ago with my main concern being ongoing issues with my bowels which are taking over my life. I of course had the typical period problems too before being put on contraception which stopped them completely...Anyway, the letter I received after my Lap stated 'Two small areas of cystic Endometriosis in the pouch of douglas underneath both utero-sacral ligaments. Completely normal diagnostic laparoscopy, treated with helica'. This gave me some relief at the time as I finally felt validated, however 2 years on I have had absolutely no relief at all, which I'm aware can happen, but I today decided to call and ask whether my bowel was checked during the procedure out of curiosity, as the letter was quite brief and nothing had been mentioned about this. The surgeons reply was 'we'd have had a general look around, nothing specific'...Has anyone else had similar experiences where bowel endo has been missed, or am I overthinking it? Thank you! 🙂

Bowel Endometriosis ?
Hi, sorry you're going through this & still fighting for answers 2 years on. I have bowel endometriosis that was missed during my diagnostic op (all the endo was missed!), but is there in the photos from the surgery. I also have nodules/adhesions on my recto-sigmoid colon which were seen in my ultrasound prior to the op (also missed in the op), & now over a year on are fused to my uterus, cervix & vagina as seen on MRI - the bowel endo seen in the photos was still not detected here. I'm currently at a BSGE centre & have been on their waiting list for surgery for a year, however as bowel symptoms have progressed (now chronic, rather than cyclical), they've removed me whilst colorectal do some investigation. You can submit a subject access request through your hospital website & ask for colour photos of your op, & all your surgery notes which should give you a more detailed overview (hopefully). Were you operated on by general gynae, special interest or BSGE? The pouch of Douglas is right next to your recto-sigmoid colon. Hope that's helpful!
