I went to the hospital for my first gynaecology appointment on tuesday where i was told they were certain it’s Endometriosis. As you can imagine it was a mix bag of sadness but relief i didn’t fight with the doctors for the previous year for nothing.
They recommended surgery which i’ve agreed to, ive also said yes to having the coil inserted whilst i’m under, does anyone have any experience or advice?
They’ve told me i’ll have surgery within the month but as you can expect this makes me so nervous, im still so scared that there won’t be anything there.
sorry this is long winded, to put it briefly i wanted to ask
- how long was recovery before you went back to work after surgery
- experience of the coil being inserted in surgery? or just in general does it help with pain?

That’s what i said, he said it’s typical endometriosis symptoms which is why he’s so certain. I’m sure about the surgery as i fear that’s the only way i can know for definite that it’s endometriosis
I had coil fitted during surgery many years ago. Sadly it wasn’t for me as it gave me severe headaches. But for some it helps so it’s always worth a try. Recovery wise you will need at least a week off work possible two. You should be fully recovered in 6 wks (internal healing etc) Your body will tell you when you’ve overdoing it! Good luck.
I had a total hysterectomy 11 weeks ago, sadly it became a medical emergency. I had life saving bowel surgery after they found my womb stuck to my bowel, they had to fit a colostomy bag to save my life. It was 50/50 that I’d pull through. All will be reversed next year then I can start having a life again after 20 years! Keep going you will get there in the end, hopefully not as long as I took 🙂
Surgery was fine, I had mine 4 weeks ago. It's never as bad as you imagine. Doing relaxation exercises they'll help. If they're sure then take their expert opinion. I was off work for 2 weeks, deffo needed. Not exercising yet, soon will. You're strong you can do it.
I have experienced the relief of having Endo, proving I was not crazy but also the sadness.
I was diagnosed in 2006. Since then (17 years) I have always had Mirena Coils inserted after surgery and had them taken out and replaced. They were brilliant for me and reduced heavy period from 10 days to needing just a panty liner for 3-4 days with minimal pain. Reduced blood flow. My energy went up and I lost 2 stone in weight. I recommend them but everyone’s body reacts differently.
My last Mirena was inserted during a hysteroscopy and it was also ok.
After both of my laps, I was doing more after about 7-10 days and fully back to normal after 3 weeks with wounds healed. Everyone is different though. I know the anxiety of needing to take time off work for the operation. Just be sure to not go back until you feel ready. Normally it’s best to have one long absence, rather than lots of smaller ones. if that makes sense?
When they remove the Endo during the operation it’s sent to pathology and the results confirm if it is Endo or not.
The procedure is over quite quickly and both times I have got to go home after waking up, and eating something.
I haven't had the coil so can't comment on that bit.
In terms of recovery from surgery it really depends on how much endo they find. I had to have 3 mths off work before I could go back. I had a lot of adhesions and cyst plus surgery on my ligaments and ureter so it really depends as you can see by the other comments some people are recovered within a few weeks
I would say listen to your body and get advise if you're not healing at the rate you think you should be.
I was really confused after 2 weeks when I wasn't back to normal but when I spoke to the team they said it was because I'd had a lot removed
My advise, only get surgery if that is the best option for you. In my case I had an MRI scan to confirm that I had endo before deciding for surgery. The MRI showed endo (when checked by a specialist) and my endo symptoms were stopping me from having a normal life so I went ahead with the surgery. It was a very good decision , I made sure it was excesion surgery (ablation doesn’t work) and not just a diagnosis laparoscopy to avoid future operations. I was on the mini pill before and after surgery and I strongly recommend taking hormonal treatment to slow down endo progression. It’s important you find what treatment fits you best. Overall the surgery improved my endo symptoms massively and I recovered very well in 2-4 weeks. I wish all the best in your endo journey!!
Hi, don’t feel foolish for having an anxiety it is very natural.
My experience was fine l had a partial hysterectomy, followed by completion of hysterectomy 3 months later and awoke pain free and with the feeling l had had a good sleep, none of the feeling of drowsiness or upset tummy.
I sincerely wish you well, talk to your anaesthetist before you go in to surgery and l really think they will put your mind at rest, wishing you well on your journey back to health, Alexa
