Confused about surgery options

Hi A little back story before i ask my question i was diagnosed with endo after 15 years of pain. I finally have finally been referred for surgery after a lot of back and forth for the past 2 years. I have stage 4 endo which is now affecting my bowel and kidneys resulting in me having a stent fitted into my uterer.

I finally had my first appointment with my consultant in which he said that during my lap to remove the endo my fallopian tubes are to be removed and maybe my ovaries and also that keeping my womb with make the op more " difficult " . At the same time as this op i need to also have my bowel and intestines saved from any endo and damaged parts removed.

My question is i went in to the process expecting my endo to be remove not for my tubes and ovaries to be removed im only 30 no kids and this radical option was told to me five minutes into my appointment. I was also told that it looks like my tubes appear filled with blood and that i would be referred for a hsg test to check this to later be told that was never said and i dont need it .

Im now not very confident in the op and the whole process . My question is can i decline my tubes and ovaries being removed and question this with the consultant.

Hi

Of course you can question this, are they an Endo specialist? You shouldn’t be with any consultant unless they are.

If they are, there is still nothing stopping you asking GP for a referral for a second opinion. Explain what you’ve been told. If you can afford it maybe a consultation with a Gynae of your choice. You get more time as well.

It’s your body and you have all the rights to discuss op, decline any bits removed.

Think carefully about questions you need answers to and email secretary. Ask for a copy of the MRI report, assuming you had one.

I don’t not know what pain you are in, but you do need to make sure that all Endo/adhesions are removed still.

Hope this helps.
