post lap bleeding

I’ve had my laparoscopy (in more pain than before, hoping it’s just recovery!) but I’m bleeding so heavily. I’m only day 5 post but I never got told anything at the hospital, I asked if the bleeding was normal to the nurse and she just said “yep” and walked off. It’s extremely heavy like my periods yet I wasn’t due on for a while so unsure. I expected spotting but nothing this bad. Can anyone help if they had similar or if they were told anything? Thanks

Hi Cats1311

Yes bleeding post op is normal :) they have been messing around in your uterus, so it stimulates a bleed. Similar to when you give birth, even by cesarean you still have a bleed.

If you are having any shoulder pain or extreme cramping try eating some mints and chewing gum, or drinking peppermint tea if you have it. That really helps! The pain is from the gas they pump you with, and in my opinion it was the worst pain lol.

You shouldn’t be having more pain than you had on the day/day after your surgery. Pain should decrease each day. However, you have just undergone major abdominal surgery. Don't let those tiny holes fool you, it is only keyhole to prevent major scarring on the outside, this does not mean that inside wasn't massively affected. Do you know what they did when they were in there? Ablation? Excision? Any adhesions removed? Or was it just diagnostic but no treatment?

Depending on what they did it can vary how long recovery is and how long pain lasts etc. But just as a guide it is around 6 weeks to be up and about fully, but can be up to 6 months before you know what your "normal" will be now.

Hope that all helps! Happy to answer more questions :) fire away :) xx
