First laparoscopy & general anaesthetic

Hi everyone I’m 19 and after dealing with excruciating periods for years I’ve finally been listened to I’ve been examined and had an internal ultrasound where they found some form of cyst and think my ovary is adhered to my womb by endometrial tissue (right side) I’m finally booked in for a laparoscopy to fully confirm and perform any surgeries to treat/remove it which could mean taking my right ovary which I’m terrified about since I dream of becoming a mother one day. I’m extremely nervous as I have ASD which gives me severe anxiety and never had a general anaesthetic or any procedure like this. I’ve seen everyone on this page be so kind to one another and just hoping for advice or encouragement! Could anyone who has had any of this done leave a comment it would be greatly appreciated, thankyou💛

hi, I had my first ever surgery this year at 45 and I was terrified, my heart rate was through the roof. I needed not worry. It was fine. I had a cyst off my ovary and had them both unstuck, and I kept mine. You go to sleep really quick and wake a second later and it’s all over. I was a bit sleepy afterwards but I didn’t have much pain. Honestly you’ll be fine.

You'll be fine ❤️ I've had two to remove endometriosis and cysts and was absolutely fine 🙂 I was nervous like you but please try and relax as you will be well looked after. Very very unlikely they will remove an ovary so don't worry about that and it'll be over before you know it and will worth it to help with pain etc. It's keyhole surgery so honestly dont stress 🌈✨️❤️

Hi Mittens - I've had two GAs now and I was really nervous the first time but honestly it was fine! There's a lot a waiting around but then the actual knocking you out bit happens really quickly and they don't give you time to think about it! Then before you know it you'll be waking up. The anaesthetist will come round to talk to you before the surgery and you can let them know if you're worried - they are very reassuring!

Also if absolute worst comes to worst and they take an ovary - that's definitely not the end of the world in terms of having a baby. But they will do everything they can not to take it.

Hope it goes well!

I had my first surgery on my 20th Birthday! The surgery wasn’t too bad at all. It was very nerve racking but before you know it, you’re sleeping away. When you awake, you’re in the recovery room.,. The staff are usually very friendly and reassuring.

You’re then taken to your ward.. I had to stay overnight as the operation was done later in the day. I did feel nauseous due to the general anaesthetic but this wore off in a few hours and doesn’t happen to everyone.

Being realistic with you, the next morning I was in a lot of pain but I took codiene which helped a lot. After that I was walking on my own and went home a few hours later.

I’d recommend drinking peppermint tea when you are at home. This is because in the operation they fill your stomach with gas so after the op there is gas stuck. Peppermint tea helped ease the uncomfortableness due to the gas.

Overall, the operation wasn’t that bad at all and I wish I hadn’t stressed so much beforehand! Wishing you good luck 🤞🏼

Hey! Im 19 too and I have just recently had my third surgery. When I went in for my first, I had a cyst on my left ovary and tons of adhesions…I was so worried they might take my ovary too or other complications might happen cause it’s surgery right!! It’s scary. Despite all that, both my ovaries are still intact and doing well (ish) 😅. Surgery is scary and being put to sleep, but the doctors will not remove your ovary unless it’s extremely necessary and they remove cysts all the time without harming the ovary.

That’s what helped me, so just try to relax and think about how this will make things better for you. My only advice would be to have a hot water bottle at all times after surgery, it helps soooo much!!

Good luck, Im sure it will go fine xxx
