Amitryptaline for bladder endo

Hi, is anyone else on anti-depressant amitryptaline for bladder endo? I’ve been on 10mg for 5 weeks for nerve-endings and it is stopping me feel I constantly need a wee. While I think it’s working, it knocks me out for 10-12 hours a night and it’s hard juggling that/work/kids. Other drugs did nothing and this is the lowest dose - do side effects reduce over time? Has anyone used this drug just for the short-term and it’s still helped longer term? I’m 45 and unsure how long I can/want to stay on it. Thanks

I’m so sorry Jo I have no answer.. as a fellow sufferer with bowel endo im watching with interest as naproxen isn’t touching the pain anymore and I just don’t know how long I can survive like this.

I was on amitriptyline for a while they do make you tired but I only took it at night because of this reason it did reduce over time for me and stopped working for me, I was on zapain or tramadol during the day time still makes me drowsy but most painkillers do, I'm on diazepam at night now and that's even worse for making you sleep hours at a time good for me as the pain wakes me up this helps loads I've had all sorts to try to get rid of this nasty endo even a hysterectomy 7 months ago hasn't helped much guess I'll be on drugs forever hope you find a solution soon xx

so sorry you feel this way .. you are not alone. How awful that even after a hysterectomy you are not feeling relief. Hysterectomy is on my next operation list and I had my hopes pinned it will help me. Lying in agony on the floor since 6:30am waiting for painkillers to kick in so I can get up. This is a horrible disease.

I have tried a few drugs in this group and am now on nortryptyline and have had the same problem. I can only manage 20mg though the recommended dose is 50mg. I find taking it earlier in the evening has helped, as it doesn’t make me sleepy then, but means there is some hope of me getting out of bed in the morning.

Hi Jo, yes I tried it and I was the same. Knocked me out and I finally got a good nights sleep, but then I felt hungover every single day and I just couldn’t function on it.

The pain didn’t really subside in my option.

The pain management clinic then put me on a less potent version which is called nortryptaline, but again I don’t think this addresses the pain.

I’m now 3 weeks post lap and have awaiting another appointment to discuss pain management.

I hope you get sorted soon!

Thanks, interesting that two of you have mentioned nortryptaline. I’ll mention it and see how I go in coming weeks on this one. So groggy - like a big night out without the fun! I hope things get better for you soon!
