I have a question around the Mirena IUD. I hope this is the right forum for this.
I had an operative laparoscopy two months ago, and I had the IUD fitted at the same time for management of adenomyosis and endometriosis.
I have experienced a number of persistent side effects of this treatment; the most significant, being acne.
If you have an IUD as a management tool for endometriosis, did you experience this and, if so, does it get better over time? Is the IUD, in your opinion, worth it?
Thank you so much,
Chelsea x

Hi Lovely! If it helps, I also have a Mirena Coil, my first one I only kept for 2.5 years as it did nothing, however, I’ve had it changed recently and it’s so much better. I also have quite bad acne, but I’ve found a good exfoliating toner helps. As well as having ‘dry’ days (as I call them!) where I don’t apply any moisturiser to let the spots dry out a bit? It does get better though, my skin is now mostly clear until I have my period
I have found over all the Mirena has been good, I still have flares and days of pain but it’s so handy to not have to remember to take the pill at certain times and the emotional benefits I have found to be so much better! I’m less depressed and have more energy and I’ve lost the weight I gained with the pill too!
I haven't had any issues with acne on my face but I have had body acne, differin gel should help your acne if you haven't tried it! I've experienced a lot of hair loss too
I still have persistent dull but painful cramps around my cervix like 2-3 days a week since getting it fitted 3 years ago, do you hace these?
I don't bleed at all unless have sex, I find it has made my pmdd much worse and I have had bowel issues. But my back pain has stopped....
I want it removed but I am so traumatised from insertion I refuse to get it removed without general anaesthetic which the doctors refuse to provide, I haven't been diagnosed with endo yet but only bc they refuse to put me on the waiting list for a lap
