I would think really really carefully abut having any HRT. In surgery where the ovaries are removed endo is far less likely to come back, I think its 85% it won't whereas if ovaries are left in it's 20 %. The ovaries are taken out to stop them producing eostrogen which makes the endo grow. If you take HRT it puts the oestrogen back. I would look into this vrey very carefully it seems a bit pointless to take the ovarie sout to stop the oestrogen then put it back in via HRT. It could increase the chance of the endo coming back.

Hey Bailey, estrogen makes endometriosis grow, so now you've had your ovaries (which produce estrogen) removed, it technically shouldn't grow back. Unfortunately, you might still get some endometriosis symptoms though due to scar tissue - it sounds like you've had some pretty complicated surgeries :-(. They usually try to give you a small dose of HRT which shouldn't be enough to make the endo grow back, but there always a risk. It's really difficult trying to strike a balance between stopping the endo from growing whilst limiting the side effects from not having enough estrogen in your body (hot flushes, osteoporosis, weight gain etc). Hopefully you'll feel much better once you've recovered from this op xx

Anna, do you have any research or studies to link to because this is a really contentious issue and i think as HRT becomes more popular and widely prescribed it leaves women with endo in a very difficult position. Endo specialists seem to have different views on it one gynae told me to take HRT and another told me ,absolutely don't take it. Both of these guys are meant to be experts in their fields. Has any conclusive research been done on this? I will have a search to see what there is but I don't know what the latest scientific consensus is or if there is a consensus.

Hi Avourneen, Unfortunately I haven't been able to find anything concrete, but the British Menopause Society page has a couple of links that might give you a starting point: thebms.org.uk/publications/.... Hope this helps xx
