Can anyone help?

Hi all, I have a question about endometriosis and thought this would be the best forum to ask in. I've been off the pill for roughly 3 years now and not long after that my symptoms started. I have a lot of brown spotting before period and also during period (it's never a straight 5 days of a proper flow) and sometimes looks like thick coffee/chocolate that just appears mid period. I've bled after sex on and off for years (mainly brown/rusty red colour) and I continue to spot for a few days after. I've had a lot of investigation into this including ultrasounds and smears that have all been completely normal. I've mentioned this to a couple of close friends that have all said maybe it could be endometriosis. Now I just assumed it couldn't be that because I'm in no pain. I get a heavy pressure feeling around my period but I'm sure a lot of women who have periods experience this. So I guess my question is can you have endometriosis without the pain? And would it be worth mentioning this to my doctor? I want to be trying to get pregnant soon so i dont want to go back on the pill. I'm just really fed up of seeing this disgusting brown blood all the time.

Hi Sarah, hope you’re well. I would definitely advice seeking a referral to a gynaecology team from your gp. May take a while due to covid but would defo advice you on seeking a gynae opinion. I believe quite mild endo could not have bad pain, but your periods sound defo troubling which should not be the case. Sophie xx

Just to say that I was diagnosed with quite extensive endo without having more than what I considered normal period pain. So it is possible.

Hey Sarah, it definately wouldn't be a bad idea to mention it to your GP. The symptoms of Endometriosis vary massively from one person to another so it’s really difficult to compare.

Try keeping a diary of your symptoms for when you visit your GP (they will probably ask you to do this anyway so it could speed things up).

Good luck and let us know how you get on xx

I went to see my doctor this morning who thinks that its maybe to do with my period not completely emptying. That the hole in the cervix is quite narrow. Hopefully I'll get some answers this time round. Thank you so much for your reply x

Did they give you any advice on how to improve things? Xx

I'm having an internal ultrasound at the end of my next period, just to see if everything is cleared and is breaking down as it should be. She did say if that comes back normal then she'll keep on investigating, so hopefully I will eventually get to the bottom of what it is. x
