Hello, I have recently been diagnosed with both PCOS and endometriosis and I am completely naive to both conditions and lost. I would greatly appreciate some advice. Are there any magical products I should have or be taking? What should I be avoiding? Thank you :)

What is your gyne doctor doing about it? Hot water bottles work well to soothe a little bit of the pain. Google will explain what endometriosis is and tell you to avoid red meat but it doesn’t make a difference. I know it’s not the answer but you sort of learn to live with the pain. My doctor put me on anti depressants just to calm my hormones down and it sort of mellows the pain but not totally. Zoladex will help reduce the growth and helps a lot with the pain but you can only use it for so long.

Hi, I too have both conditions, pcos was found prior to endo. Basically prone to getting cysts on my ovaries which can be painful. Most of my cysts have and are endo cysts so basically full if blood fill up during the month and drain during my period. Not sure how much you know about endo but basically what's supposed to grow inside your uterus grows on the outside too ,then bleeds and has nowhere to escape so remains within the cavity causing scarring and pain. It can grow everywhere, it's a bit like glue, my insides are pretty much fused together. Had a scan the other day, sorry for being blunt but they could not make head nor tail of what or were my sexual organs where due to the severity of my endo. I'm totally devastated. Last time I had a scan my ovaries were attached to my bowels with no free movement. Everything should move around in there but mines are frozen/stuck solid. I'm not overly concerned about my pcos to be honest. I have constant lower back and abdo pain and suffered sciatica the last 2 years ,consultant thinks that endo is causing it.

Hi Plum234, I'm sorry to hear about your diagnosis. This site is great and will hopefully provide you with lots of information. The webinars are also worth watching. Also, it might be worth checking to see if there is a support group in your local area.

I find keeping a diary helps. I have been able to identify various foods and drinks that don't agree with me, plus I jot down times of stress and anxiety which aggravates my period further. Every woman is different. Some women find cutting down things like alcohol, caffeine, and sugar helps, but for some, it doesn't make any difference.

Hot water bottles and baths both work for me. I also drink lots of ginger tea to help calm my stomach and nausea, and peppermint tea for bloating. During my period, I stock up on iron-rich foods.

It's a bit of trial and error at first, figuring out what works and what doesn't, but it's worth it when you find something that eases some of the symptoms.

I hope that helps. Take care, Sas

Hi, as others have said it often is a bit of trial and error to find out what things work and don't work for you. I found that changing to more of an anti-inflammatory diet made a big difference to my endo symptoms. We are all different in what we react to, but for me wheat, sugar, caffeine and alcohol all made my symptoms worse. Hot baths and heat pads/hot water bottles can help ease the pain. Good luck.

Thank you for all of your kind messages. Google was rather overwhelming with contradictory advice and “magical” product recommendations left right and centre.

I’m going to start monitoring my symptoms and hope that overtime I’ll learn how to manage my conditions. X
