Hello a private gynaecologist has offered surgery but has said this:
I will treat mild to moderate endometriosis - if it's severe we take images and plan later at the endometriosis centre with other specialities like if bowel adhesions perform with surgeons.
I’m not sure what to make of it. Is this right? She’s had a cancellation in February but I’m worried the surgery could cause more scar tissue.
Thanks

Hi yes, this is the correct way to proceed. Diagnosis lap first, with treatment if it’s within the surgeon’s capabilities. If what they find is more serious/complicated they must plan for multidisciplinary surgery, eg with bowel experts for bowel endometriosis etc. Unfortunately, there will always be the risk of creating more adhesions/scars with any new surgery and we have to weigh up the benefits vs potential drawbacks each time.
Thank you. I feel really mixed, I’ve been in horrendous pain and having periods every 12 days since my booster jab. But I’m back on the pill and hoping that helps. I don’t know whether to try and wait a while or seize on this cancellation date next month. Mine all started post c section and as you say I’m nervous for more scar tissue! I honestly don’t know what to do 🥺
Ugh, that sounds really awful for you! All I would say is that whilst the pill may give relief, it’s really only masking/putting off the problem. The lap is the best way to confirm exactly what’s going on inside and get the correct treatment. I would accept the cancellation date if it were me, as waiting times are so horrendous at the mo, and I would be looking forward to having some answers (though not loving the thought of another procedure!!) Good luck with all of it xxxx
I would jump at the chance of being offered that cancellation date ! I’m on the waiting list through the NHS and I have been on the list before COVID and I’m still waiting now In agony… even if they can’t give treatment in the surgery you will have some answers !!!!👍🏼🙌🏼
Ah sorry to hear that! We’ve taken some extra mortgage out to possibly have the surgery, but I know a couple of people for who it really made their endo worse. The pill stops some of the sharp sharp stabbing pain but periods are awful. I have a 2 year old and am not sure how I’d care for him post op, my husband would need time off and we are moving house! I’d have to have the surgery and make it worse. I feel so torn- and also every so slightly suspicious this private surgery which is 4K is so quickly available! Maybe overthinking. I was referred finally to an nhs consultant start of October and have an appointment end of May. Before that doctors never listened!
Hi, at least if it's worse you will be operated by an endometriosis specialist! First of all, no non-specialised dr's should operate on patients with endometriosis as they will never find every spot of endo to be excised. Fight for yourself to be operated by a specialist my dear. Best wishes 😚
