I had a laparoscopic cholecystectomy 8 days ago and still have severe wind pain. Is this normal?

I can potter around the house but if i go for a walk (even down the street) i get a severe 'stitch' like stabbing pain under left rib and intense shpulder tip pain. Also if i bend over or forward (to try and pick up kids toys) get intense pain in bottom right side of stomach and again shoulder pain. I can stand and sit and lie flat ok but getting up from a lying position (out of bed in the morning also causes the intense pain). It sounds like the trapped wind still and i can feel air bubbles if i press between my ribs or stomach but it is very tender and they dont seem to be getting better. From all my googling efforts it seems most wind pain should be gone within a couple of days. I have been drinking peppermint tea daily too. Any help or advice would be really appreciated as feel it is so debilitating especially with yound kids. TIA x

Also might be worth pointing i stayed overnight in hospital due to the wind pain after the surgery. It was much worse as couldnt even sit up then but still expected it to have eased more by now? I cannot believe how intense it is and am wondering if it definately is trapped wind it is that painful.

I’m sorry to hear you are still in a lot of pain. I would try and ring your doctor or consultant to check you over and make sure it is just wind. As best to check and then you won’t need to worry.

Thank you dor taking the time to reply. The consultant checked before i left the hospital and thought it was that. Sometimes you feel silly or a whimp. I have hammered the peppermint tea today so will see if that makes a difference and if not will contact the consultant. Thank you again x
