Hi, today I saw a consultant Gynaecologist who told me I have Endometriosis and a large Hydrosalpinx ... he said normally they would like to operate to remove my fallopian tube and ovary and surgery to treat my Endometriosis along with hormonal contraceptives. However, as soon as he realised that I had previously had an Ischaemic Stroke, he told me that he couldn't offer any of those treatments due to the high risk.
I cannot continue to manage in this much pain, I've been advised that due to my current stroke medication that I can only take codeine and paracetemol, which doesn't suit me and I struggle to function on it which is not ideal with two young children.
I honestly thought that today was the road to the end should I be getting a second opinion? or is this really it?!

I'd go back to GP and talk to them about it. My thought would be what would they do if you had a life threatening condition like Appendicitis. Would they still say they couldn't operate? Any operation comes with risks. It could be that the particular surgeon you saw today is reluctant where as another might not be. These are just thoughts, sorry I can't help more. It's horrendous that the consultant has left you in a very difficult situation. If you can take codeine can you take a stronger opiate or is codeine the max? A non opiate painkiller is Nefopam.
I’m sorry you’ve received such devastating news. Like moon_maiden I can’t offer anything but my thoughts either. I’d get a second opinion. It may be that in time they may be able to operate, when was your stroke? I’ve no idea if time would make a difference though, just a thought! Are you with an endometriosis specialist? I know that this is a different situation entirely but my Father had one knee operation and the second time they didn’t want to operate again (he’s on warfarin so it thinned his blood and was a concern) However, they did concede when he expressed that he couldn’t go on with the pain. Like the other lady said if it was an emergency then they would. My Fallopian tube was removed due to hydrosalpinx, it inflated & twisted 3 times, I couldn’t imagine that they could leave you with the prospect that it could get worse and that there’s no help for you. Don’t give up, ask more questions and find a specialist. Also I don’t know if you’ve had children or want them but as an aside I had IVF after the Fallopian tube removal and gel pregnant then fell pregnant naturally a second time.
