So, here goes, this is the first night after my first decapeptyl injection (had it yesterday afternoon).
Well, it's nearly 2am, and it feels as though the area inside my abdomen is "burning" or so very, very achy. My body's "alarm bells" feel like they're sounding the alert.
I suspect that this is the first uncomfortable 2-week period where it prompts a release of estrogen before shutting it off, and I suspect I'm feeling the areas with endo. My goodness, this is sore and crampy. What a yucky feeling!
I've crept downstairs for a diclofenac, a couple off cookies and a herbal tea to try to get a little pain relief (finally learned to go and do something for it rather to lie in bed hurting, hoping it will pass).
I'm really hoping this first stage won't last too long and will subside soon. Two weeks would be a very long time to feel this way.
Did anyone else feel like this when starting Decapeptyl?
Hi June_Viola, sorry to hear you're suffering. As you know, I had my first injection of Prostap on 12th April, and I'm now bleeding and have pelvic pain (albeit not as severe as it is usually). I noticed I've been very bloated as well. I understand from this forum that it's normal for symptoms to get worse before they get better with the first injection. I'm seeing my consultant tomorrow for a midway review so I'll feed back to you if he gives me any useful advice.
Hi I had my first decepeptyl injection about 3 weeks ago and the 1st week was horrendous. Heavy bleeding, up and down all night, very fatigued (more than normal) and I thought what on earth have I done to myself by agreeing to have this. Things have settled although hot flushes are quite bad (waiting on HRT), still tired and sleeping a lot. Did they give you HRT?
Is this to see if you would be suitable for a hysterectomy? Xx
Hi Glitter,Thanks for letting me know the first week was tough for you too - but that things do eventually settle. This day has been a major effort and I'm not through it yet.
I also have the Mirena (from before - Dr. said to keep it until I decide what to do), so the bleeding is only light do far. I'm not enjoying today's fatigue and sore abdomen though.
Yes, I have the HRT tibolone. I read it's to maintain heart and bone health (bone loss can happen with injection alone). Sounds like a good idea to me, based on that.
Yes, the Dr. did say hysterectomy might be an option, and that if the injection helped, that could be an indicator that switching off the estrogen from the ovaries would help in my case (or rather, considering removing them all together as part of a hysterectomy).
Next week, I'll have the MRI scan, and I really want to know what the colorectal surgeon thinks of my case. I long for the days when bodily functions were easy and pain free. Of course, I've already "Googled" about surgery for endometriosis around the bowel and scared myself. 😉 I can't help looking it up, but always wish I hadn't.
This waiting game is my least favourite game of all.
I feel for you on this journey as it’s so hard isn’t it, it’s great to be able to speak to others like ourselves on here. I do hope your symptoms settle soon with the injection. Rest and take it easy if you can 💗I have my 2nd one this week and wondering what to expect, hope it’s a breeze compared to the 1st lot of symptoms x
