Tomorrow i have my first consulation with a gyneacologist about endo. (I have been in constant pain since august even while on painkillers, have bowel and bladder problems, nerve pain down my leg, endo belly, etc.)
I have been on the public waitinglist for ages without any prospect of an apointment so i went ahead and booked a private cunsultation. I know probably not much will happen in one appointment but maybe it will speed up the process just a bit 🙈
I am quite nervous because i have no idea what to expect. Do you have any tips/ information for me?

Hi Rhubarb,In hindsight, at my first gynaecologist appointment, I wish I had known to request a diagnostic laparoscopy to get a confirmed diagnosis. So, that's my top tip.
Other than that, there's a good page on Endometriosis UK with pdfs showing the kind of questions that are useful to ask.
A diagnostic laparoscopy is the "gold standard" in diagnosing endometriosis, and they will assess and record the stage of endometriosis (stages I to IV).
My first scan was an ultrasound. Ultrasounds can show cysts at the front of the body (but not which type). A skilled gynaecologist/technician can also identify fluid in the pelvis and cysts in the pouch of Douglas, and endometrial-like tissue along the colon - however, not all technicians are trained to consider the back area.
I had a diagnostic laparoscopy and "wash-out" a few days after a trip to A&E for Intollerabile pain. The consultant found too much work for one session, so she is arranging an MRI scan for me before follow up (second surgery yet to come).
MRI scans are useful where the anatomy has been changed by adhesions (eg. Uterus stuck to bowel, others) to show positions of organs.
From your description of symptoms, they sound really uncomfortable. Maybe your gynaecologist would first request an ultrasound for you, but the ultrasound gives little info. An MRI might show something if adhesions are there. A lap will show all of it.
I am only a patient, not a health professional, so go with what your gynaecologist says. She/he will know what to suggest. 😊
Thanks june that makes sense!I had an ultrasound way back in september and it showed a cyst they said should disappear but i can still feel it and all the other symptoms just got worse.
But this is great now i know what the standard is, i know what im to expect.
