I have surgery booked in next month for an endometrioma removal and endometriosis laparoscopy . I got a second opinion this weekend and the consultant did another scan and discovered the endometrioma is actually 1cm not 5 cm like I had been told - she thinks a corpus lutem cyst was overlapping the endometrioma on the original scan making it look bigger. She recommends I don’t have surgery at this point which could cause trauma to the ovary and she doesn’t think my endo is severe enough to warrant it at this point. I am now very confused! Has anyone had conflicting doctors’ opinions before?

Hello! My advice is not to do the surgery. Surgery is anyway a trauma to an ovary. 1 cm endometrioma will not effect your life negatively. Just enjoy your life with it. It may disappear on its own.
Thanks so much for your reply. This is exactly what the consultant said this weekend as said she would see surgery as the ‘last resort’. I’m not sure whether it’s still worth going ahead with the laparoscopy part of the surgery or not
I would go for a third opinion, honestly. My first ultrasound, my doctor thought it was just a hemorrhagic cyst... 5 months later and tremendous amounts of pain, another scan showed the endometrioma better, along with more fun stuff 🙄
Even though there is potential for removal to harm the ovary, leaving an endometrioma can also kill that ovary.
After my second scan, and TONS of research, I realized in my situation, I’m better off having the surgery. I’m not having anymore children; I’ve been in major pain for over 60 days straight. Now my Dr is doing a partial hysterectomy (leaving my only ovary I have left). Now, I do know that I still have a chance of still having endo in the future, but this will be my THIRD surgery for endo issues. At 41, I’m truly over it.
But please, seek another opinion. Also, look up studies on endometriomas and the risks/benefits of removal!
