Hi I was was wondering if anyone could help me during my plea for diagnosis please? For the past 3 years I have been suffering with very heavy periods, extreme cramping, water infections/ cystitis monthly, similar symptoms to IBS, constant nausea and dizziness. I have been on the contraceptive pill for 2 years and have only made things worse for me. My doctor is rather dismissive and wants me to try non-hormonal contraception to see if my symptoms disappear. Did anyone have these symptoms and if so could you please give me any advice on how to push for a diagnosis or if my symptoms don’t sound similar to those that you have had, could you also let me know? I’m 19 and don’t really know what I should be doing right now.

Thank you!!! X

hi hun, I'm 19 too and have only just found a GP that will actually listen to me after going to doctors for nearly 2 years. I know that not every GP is like this but at my GP surgery, you can ask for a list of GPs with certain specialities / interests. After I did this I booked an appointment with a GP that had an interest in gynaecology and woman's health and was immediately listened to. They can also look through your notes from previous appointments and see how many times you've been in for the same problem and hopefully will understand what you're going through. I hope this has helped and if you ever want to message anyone feel free to message me x

Thank you so so much for getting back to me! Did you have to request this for GP’s in your borough or just in your surgery? My surgery is small and has one female and one male GP so I had to chose who I wanted between the two. I’m a real panicker and the long wait is killing me and the pain I have is becoming unbearable. So if you have any tips on how to push things through that would be amazing!! Thank you x

I was referred to a private gynaecologist because I was told that the waiting list in my area would be a very long time. I was given two different types of medication which haven’t really helped me at all and have not heard back off this gynaecologist in months. My GP has now suggested that I have a copper IUD fitted to see if my symptoms are just caused by hormones from my pill before she considers me for a laparoscopy, which won’t be for at least a year (maybe more). I’m not really sure what to do from here. Thank you so much for replying x

Hi Bethlou,

I'm sorry to hear you are having trouble getting anywhere with getting a diagnosis from your GP.

I have linked a couple of information packs from the endometriosis UK website bellow. The first is an information pack on getting a diagnosis and the second is a consultation questionnaire that you may find useful to take with you to your appointments.

I hope you find this information helpful
