Hi ladies ,

A few days ago I did a post where I bled after sex and was in a lot of pain . I went to the walk in centre yesterday after advised by 111. They were convinced it was an ectopic pregnancy with the pain I was displaying ( it was not ). They have now advised me to ring my gp on Monday to arrange a ct scan and ultrasound . Honestly I’m quite scared as I feel so unwell. I have a sharp pain in my left side of tummy , and constant pain in my back and legs . Alongside this I feel very bloated and so tired .

Just wondered if this has happened to anyone else or if anyone could just offer some comforting words .

Thankyou ,

Lucy xxx

Hi Lucy_x, sorry you are going though it. I have not experienced what you do, but maybe some warm bath or heating pad will help. Try some spearmint/peppermint tea and rest. There is nothing really you can do until you see your doctor. I would go to emergency if it gets worse. Good luck!

I too used to get bleeding after sex. I have 18 chronic conditions so I haven’t had sex in over 5 years so not sure if it’s still an issue. It would usually clear up the next day. Don’t worry too much yet.

Most, if not all, of the scans will come back clear. Endo isn’t easily seen on any type of imaging evening transvaginal. Unless done by an Endo specialist it will likely show nothing. But it is good to rule everything out. I have had countless mri (even a pelvic specific one), internal and external ultrasounds, ct scans. None showed Endo or even hinted at Endo. I just had surgery last February to remove my rectum from my vagina. It had pulled itself internal up and over my vagina. I was blacking out from using the toilet. I almost ended up with a colostomy bag.

Biggest advice is keep on top of your doctors. I’ve been regularly going to the doctor for pelvic pain since I was 16 (I turned 36 last October). Unfortunately this disease is not well known and there are very few ways to accurately determine if that is what you are suffering from. Start a pain journal, when the pain starts mark it down and write down anything you might have eaten or what you were doing. You know your body best. Listen to it. Here are a few other things to keep note of.

1. Find a pelvic physio who specializes in pelvic pain or endo. They can give you different exercises to strengthen, help with penetration and sex pain, help with incontinence, bowel pain, etc.

2. Eliminate inflammation inducing foods. Everyone hates this one, and I’m not saying you can’t cheat here or there but be prepared for the consequences after you haven’t had it in a while lol. Eliminate sugar (added, fruit sugars are okay), dairy (coconut and almond are great alternatives, and cheese from certain parts of Europe where they haven’t bred the cows to produce an extra protein), gluten/wheat (schar brand is amazing!), and soy (produces estrogen in the body which extra isn’t good). Also try to reduce the amount of processed foods and eat as organic as you can.

3. A heating pad is your best friend. Don’t try the hot water bottle, the pressure hurts my uterus.

4. Magnesium is your second best friend. When you’re feeling cramping and you can, run a warm bath with 2 cups or Epsom salt (magnesium!) and it will help to soothe. I take 400 mg of magnesium in capsule form at night, helps with cramping and to sleep. Also amazing if you have restless leg syndrome.

5. Keep a diary of your symptoms and what you were doing when it happened or what you were eating. Maybe you can figure out some of your triggers.

6. Make sure you’re seeing an Endo specialist. Do whatever you can, don’t find one that just has a special interest. Most general gyn don’t know much about the condition. They tend to only do ablation (basically removing them top and leave the root). Instead of the gold standard of excision where they remove the whole implant. I have read so many stories of woman either coming out and they find no Endo or are still in just as much pain.

Hi lucy so sorry to hear that your in pain 😥 .... i had sort of the same problem i started getting sharp stabbing pain in my right side of stomach and shooting pains dwn my right leg i was also advised off 111 to go to a&e were they done a pregnancy test which was negative so that was ruled out .. that was a saturday .. i was referred for a scan for the monday.. i went and they told me everything looks normal but ide sufferd a burst cyst which can take couple weeks to settle whilst ya bodys absorbing the residue off the cyst this can inflame your uterus... if uve never experienced this pain before and bleeding after sex .. i recon uve maybe gt a ruptured cyst? Or maybe a large cyst which is aggitating ur ovaries.. i wouldnt worry bt monday honestly its always better to find out whats goin on , ull be fine tho and when you go for ur scan and things ull be in good hands ... theres alot of muscles n things in ur lower stomach sometimes ull find its not ur uterus or ovaries .. sometimes urine infections can cause havoc aswell .. sometimes the urine goes bk into ur tube causing sharp stabbing pain .. i know u said you were bleeding after sex ...sometimes this happens to me if i have sex couple days bfor im due on it always has or sumtimes friction can cause bleeding too if ur partners irritated ur cervix .. but honestly to me it sounds like the ruptured cyst ... take ibuprofen it stops inflamination try a water bottle wrap it up in something so u dnt burn ya stomach ... try lay dwn keep relaxed ..do something to take ur mind off the worry like watch a good movie or fart about with ur fone (like meeee lol) read a mag anything ... ull be fine good luck at your scan...let me know how u are n wots happening .... cheryl x
