I had excision surgery a year ago today for extensive endo. I was symptom free for about 8 months but some of my pain has come back since then. It isn’t as bad it used to be (all bowel pain has gone) but getting sciatic pains down my legs again, pain in my right ovary that feels like it’s going to explode around my period, back pain before my period and hormonal migraines. I had a chat with occupational health last week who said I need to speak to my gp so just got off the phone and she suggested I need another laparoscopy. In the meantime I’m going to try another shot of the hormonal injection on top of the mirena coil to try and calm things down. Has anyone had endo returning after excision surgery? I don’t know what to do - my specialist said they only have a 3% reoccurrence rate so unsure if these new pains are ‘normal’ for my body or possibly endo.
Any help much appreciated.
Thanks,
Annie

Yes there is no cure for endo the immune and endocrine system disease but it isn't totally normal for the lesions to return. It depends on each woman and the skill of the excision surgeons, how meticulous they are and what adhesion barriers they use etc. There will be many women have excision with no recurrence.
When I saw Gynae, due hysterectomy and any endo removed next week, I told him he needs to check everywhere as I don’t want it returning. My understanding is that it can return. Although mine is everything out there is still a risk if any is missed. I have fibroids as well, which is causing enlarged uterus.
It could be other things as well so really important to get checked. Have you check for UTI?
