Has anyone been on prostap? What are the side affects? How was your experience?
Hey,
I did 2 and 3 Prostap shots this year before IVF but I didnt have any side effects at all. I was surprised and prepared for the lot of horrible side effects but nothing. I was in free period currently so I cant say about that part how it changes.
But I guess we all react different ways. (I had wrong mini pill in my 20s and made me depressed with suicidal thoughts.)
Good luck!
I was on Prostap for 9 months. There is usually an initial space of time in the first month or two where your endo symptoms may feel like they’re getting worse before it succeeds in creating the menopause effect and they get better. Anything involving hormones takes time to take effect, there’s no on-off switch. I had two periods before it stopped them. Starting HRT at the same time is helpful to minimise side effects (hot flashes etc). The main side effect I experienced was irritability, and it was pretty bad, but after several months my mood settled. I was on HRT so only had the occasional hot flash, gained a few pounds but not noticeable. It was great not having periods.
Hiya, I had a Prostap injection about six weeks ago in preparation for an operation. I was prepared for lots of menopausal style side affects but actually it’s been ok. One thing that I wasn’t warned about is that you can have a very heavy bleed about two weeks after the injection. I was away for the weekend and that completely blindsided me, so just be aware of that. It was much heavier than a normal period for me but nowhere near as painful. Other than that I’ve had some hot flushes which are a bit annoying but that’s it. I’ve had next to no endo pain since the injection which has been a massive relief. Definitely worth some bleeding and hot flushes. Everybody’s different so you experience might not be the same as mine but for me it’s been mainly positive. I hope that helps reassure you a bit x
It really does thank you so much. Although the period was heavy did it last long? Was it the normal 5 to 7 days
Thank you becca and for all who have responded. I should get my 1st injection next week so will keep u updated.
I’ve just finished having 6 months of treatment. As mentioned by others, I’ve period after first injection and then nothing, but I do also have coil fitted. 2nd, 4th & 5th month generally pain free, but 3rd month was some spotting and pain, but spoke to consultant and this is to be expected. Main side effects: hot flashes mainly at night, nausea, chronic fatigue , irritability and in the last two months bone pain in my shoulders and arms for about 7-10 days after injection.
I’m glad I have had the 6 months to help the consultant make decisions about my future treatment, but would think twice about having again.
Hey KJH thanks for the advice. I am not looking to be on these injections for more than 3 months. When i researched patients are not allowed to be on it for more than 6 months because of how much damage it causes to the bones. (Hence your pain) the injection is just a way of suppressing the condition not treating it. Its like we can never win with this condition
Hiya, I had my first injection five weeks ago. So far so good! I have HRT to help with any side effects. I’ve had the odd hot flush but not been unbearable and some mood swings but I have had zero bleeding and only very minor pain since, which is amazing x
