I read somewhere that endometriosis affects your lifespan... since im only 17 i am super worried about this. Specially since this covid lockdown has put everyone’s life on hold. Im so scared and my parents will only tell me what i want to hear they won’t tell me the truth. Which is why i have come here so i can find the truth.

Thank you in advance.

Hello.

I'm not sure where you read that but it isn't true. Endometriosis doesn't effect your life span.

Hello, it does not effect your life span. It isn’t life threatening but it can deeply impact your life if you are in a lot of pain a lot of the time. Work with your doctors to make sure you manage the condition in a way that’s right for you and I’m sure you will live a long and happy life :)

No, that's not true.

Just as one example, here is a study showing that women with diagnosed endometriosis actually live longer than than the general population:

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/312...

There is thought to be a very tiny increase in the risk of certain female cancers in women with endo, but women with endo are not more likely to die of cancer than anyone else. It probably reflects the fact that when you have surgery or medical attention, you are more likely to find things that would go undiagnosed in other people.

Endometriosis also does not put you at higher risk of being ill with covid-19.

I hope this helps! If you are finding that you are very anxious about your health, it could be a sign that you have health anxiety, and that is something that you can get help for (seeing your GP for an initial discussion, trying a mindfulness app, etc.) xx
