I think i have endometriosis, what do i do?

I think i have endometriosis as ever since i was 15 my periods have been agonising and keep getting worse with each one.

I will be crying for 2-3 days straight at the start of my period and screaming in pain. I struggle to walk or move which means i can’t attend college on those days.

This time has been the worse one yet as i was in so much pain i started uncontrollably throwing up.

My mum has suggested endometriosis as she has got it to.

Could it be something else?

And how do I start getting diagnosed for it?

Also anyone know any tips to ease the pain?

Thanks x

Go to your GP, tell them your symptoms and tell them your mum had Endo, we can help you on this site but only when you have a confirmed diagnosis. Take care

I have similar issues. I am trying to push for more scans but with COVID19 it's proving tricky and I wouldn't want to risk it anyway.

My advice would be get a notepad and write all your period dates down (or use an app like Flo). Write all your symptoms even if you don't think it's related. For example, I have always experienced awful shoulder pain and I never mentioned it. A month ago I found out people with endo get it. So just write everything down.

I'd push for an abdominal scan and if you're comferble a transvaginal one too as it's more accurate. I just had my abdominal scan results and found two issues which are apparently nothing to worry about but she passed them on to a gyn. to have a look. Even if the specialist says it's clear I'm still pushing for endo as just because a scan is clear does not rule out endo.

Something else to remeber is that pain does not mean you have bad endo. You could have severe pain and stage 1 endo or no pain and stage 4 endo meaning don't let the GP tell you 'you can't have endo you're not in crippling pain or wanting to go to A&E' sorta thing. Just whatever you do don't let the doctors make you leave without an answer :) be your own advocate

See your GP, if you’re comfortable with the thought take your mum with you. There is evidence that it’s hereditary.

They’ll need to refer you to a gynaecologist, request that’s it to someone respected in Endometriosis, maybe do some research on your local consultants and see if you can specify who you want the referral to.

The NICE guidelines are good to take with you.

Take care, good luck
